What the hell is this modpack? lol it's crap it don't even have 200 downloads hahahahhidishfsdbfkhsdizbibfzeh
Tap's Easy Survival: Past Relics is an experimental modpack that offers players a unique journey through a world of dark fantasy without the grueling challenge typically associated with the genre, because it is not a souls-like game...it's Minecraft. True to its name, this modpack was (not) designed with ease of play in mind, making it an excellent choice for both new and experienced players who want to explore a mysterious, moody landscape without the stress and difficulty that comes with most souls-like games...I mean...it's a Minecraft modpack. Although inspired by these games in terms of atmosphere and certain gameplay features, T'SES:PR focuses more on a casual, yet immersive experience. Meow meow.
A Retro Journey into Dark Fantasy!i!!i!i! Yeaaa
One of the defining features of this modpack is its nostalgic aesthetic. The visuals take heavy inspiration from the classic PlayStation 1 era, boasting pixelated, low-poly graphics that evoke a sense of retro charm. While the modpack captures the look and feel of an older game, don’t let the PS1-inspired graphics fool you into thinking this modpack is lightweight. Despite its old-school appearance, this modpack might still demand a moderately powerful PC to run smoothly, given the variety and complexity of the mods packed inside.
In this world, you'll encounter rugged landscapes, towering castles, and dimly lit dungeons, all rendered in the haunting, minimalistic style of late '90s consoles. It’s a perfect mix of nostalgia and modern modding creativity, bringing to life a dark and oppressive world while still being approachable to players of all skill levels. (dying = skill issue).
(Alternative for Retro graphics haters: Hysteria Shaders. To enable it go to Options... -> Video -> Occulus -> Hysteria Shaders)
Souls-like Influence, Without the Brutal Difficulty, hope that you don't have skill issues
Although the modpack takes a lot of inspiration from souls-like games, particularly in terms of atmosphere, world-building, and certain mechanics, it is not intended to be a souls-like modpack. That distinction is important. Where souls-like games typically hinge on their punishing difficulty, T'SES:PR intentionally steers away from that aspect. Instead, it incorporates elements from the genre that players love, such as:
- Dark and Mysterious World: The environment is deeply atmospheric, with villages, nice forests, and desolate ruins. It mirrors the somber tone and ominous feel that souls-like fans have come to appreciate, but without the constant anxiety of ambushes and devastating bosses around every corner...BECAUSE IT'S FREAKING MINECRAFT.
- First Person Combat: Combat is more about engaging with the world at your own pace. The combat system is designed to be strategic, but far more forgiving than traditional souls-like games. You won't be punished for every misstep, and learning enemy patterns is still fun, but not essential to your survival.
- Exploration: Like in every Minecraft world, exploration is encouraged. The world is full of hidden temples, chests, and small details that add depth to the experience. However, there’s less emphasis on "trial by death." You can traverse the game’s many environments without constantly fearing for your life, making it a more relaxed experience overall, except if you are a crybaby.
In essence, T'SES:PR draws on the most captivating aspects of the souls-like genre without bombarding players with the difficulty spikes and frustration that can come with it. This is a modpack that lets you enjoy the dark fantasy atmosphere while keeping things fun, accessible, and even leisurely.
Features for All Playstyles (except Farmer’s Delight. What do you think this is? Farming Simulator 22???)
Whether you’re a builder, an adventurer, or someone who enjoys tinkering with RPG mods, this modpack offers something for everyone (except Minecolonies, but you can add that yourself). Some of the core features include:
- Easy-to-Learn Mechanics: Unlike complex modpacks that demand hours of research and understanding, T'SES:PR is beginner-friendly. Its mechanics are easy to pick up but still allow depth for those who want to experiment further. Amazing examples: Use M1 to attack or mine, and guess what! M2 is to place a block! WHAT AN AMAZING MODPACK, WOW.
- Character Customization and Progression: While combat is a part of the modpack, you won't need to grind endlessly or face impossible odds to improve your character. There are progression systems in place that reward you for exploration(chests), crafting(crafting table), and completing trades with built-in villagers!
- Rich Lore and Storytelling: I mean, there are always some people who find stories where there's nothing but ruins...so I guess you can imagine your own story...you are lonely, lol.
- Relaxed Pacing: The pacing is much more forgiving compared to traditional hardcore modpacks. You can take your time exploring dungeons, figuring out puzzles, and collecting resources without the looming pressure of constant danger or the need to master complex combat mechanics. And don’t forget: take all your time, it’s not like all the undeads of the world will run after you...lol
This modpack is not aimed to be a lightweight modpack (so don't try playing this on a macbook pro, apple is trash)
Although the PS1-style graphics might seem like a signal that this modpack is lightweight, the truth is that T'SES:PR can still be quite demanding on your system (3 GB of RAM is a lot for someone playing on an Apple device). The modpack includes various mods that add complexity to the game, like expansive biomes, unadvanced lighting systems, and non-detailed textures that don’t help enhance the atmosphere or bring the dark fantasy world to life. Therefore, while the visuals may appear nostalgic, don’t expect it to run smoothly on low-end hardware (rip Apple users). It’s a perfect blend of retro aesthetics and modern performance demands (playing on an Apple device is a medieval way to be modern).
Why It’s "Easy" But Still Fun
The "easy" aspect of T'SES:PR doesn’t mean the game lacks depth or engagement, it simply means that it’s designed for players who want to enjoy the experience without constantly being on edge (I do edge). Whether you’re looking to explore mysterious dungeons, engage in lighthearted combat, or simply roam the beautifully haunting landscapes (there are no beautifully haunting landscapes), this modpack provides a more accessible way to do so.
The difficulty curve is "gentle", allowing players to dive into the dark fantasy world without the immediate need to learn complex mechanics (I mean...you should’ve known how to play Minecraft), or face high-stakes survival scenarios, because there are no scenarios AND IT IS STILL MINECRAFT. You can focus on the parts of the game you enjoy the most, be it the story, the exploration, or even the building mechanics, if you add more mods, without the looming threat of constant brutal failure (calling a failure brutal is a brutal way to describe an almost peaceful experience).
Experimental by Design
There will be bugs. Probably. I don’t know, it works perfectly for me. Except if you are on an Apple device. I don’t like Apple devices.
(PS: If it's not easy for you, quit the game. You are trash.)
