As of August 16th, 2023, the pack is about 19% done.
The current Indev release contains the mods and some custom blocks that the pack will use for one of the island builds. It is purely for a multiplayer server for a build-together project. It is not intended to be played yet, as it contains no quests, no custom structures, no custom recipes, etc.
Taking On the Creator is a new look at what experience a modpack can provide. It is a fully customized adventure modpack intended for Singleplayer or for small private servers with friends.
What does that mean?
- It's a somewhere between a traditional Minecraft modpack and an adventure map. - It has a multitude of custom dimensions (currently 17 planned and about 4 and a half done), each of them being unique to the story in some way. - It has a quest book that guides the player through the journey with detailed quests, and about 24 custom advancements that give the player a basic outline of the progression. - The pack is intended to be speedrunnable. Although the first playthrough is intended to be much slower than a speedrun, with a bunch of mysteries to unlock while progressing through the pack. At the end of the pack, an NPC will tell you your ingame time of completion. - It's not an expert pack. Progression and recipes will be fully customized, but they'll be easy.
Story:
- You're Taking On the role of the Creator! It's time to discover all the possibilities of creation! From the Creator's Throne, you have access to the two fundamental materials of existence: Order and Entropy. Maybe combining them in different ways would yield something interesting...? - You'll be able to create the Universe, the Overworld, the Nether, the End, and so much more...! - Once created, each dimension can be explored and looted! - But watch out in the Nether specifically... don't be tempted by the Devil, or things could turn on their head...!
Features:
- Each custom dimension will either be in Survival Mode or Adventure Mode. Survival Mode dimensions are generally where you can obtain new materials, and Adventure Mode dimensions will contain custom minigames, puzzles and fights! - Completely custom progression: Wood isn't obtainable until you create the Overworld...! You'll have access to an ME System way before having access to it for example. How about Water? Lava? Regular old Stone? Well, better create it! Or find it in one of the dimensions you've created! - Chapters: 12 planned. - Custom items: Over 500 planned. - Taking full advantage of CraftTweaker! A Tamagotchi-style item is planned that you can have a conversation with. Custom activatable blocks, portals, multiblocks are all on the way! - I am planning for custom music in each dimension. I've been attempting to put together some cool tracks, however, this is the part where I might ask for the community's help! Planned minigames:
- Tamagotchi: An inventory pet that you can have a conversation with. - Dimension Jumper: A minigame based on an old custom map where clicking an item would bring you to the "nether"-version of the current world, and back. The two version are slightly different, making for some interesting puzzles. - Parkour: Jump from block to block. It's not every player's favorite genre, so I'll try to make it not too difficult or skippable! - Find the Button: Buttons or other trophies are hidden throughout a map, and you gotta find 'em all! - Escape Room: Find a way to get out of an area. - Survival Mode Prison Breakout: Find hidden items and obtain barely enough blocks to build yourself out of a Bedrock cage. - Redstone Predicament: Based on an old custom map, solve redstone puzzles for some ultimate goal. I will also try to make this easy or skippable. - Dropper: Drop down, try not to hit anything, and land in water, cobwebs or on a Slime block, etc.! - FVDisco-style bossfight: A redstone-based bossfight where the player has to dodge projectiles and shoot buttons on the boss to defeat it! - Prep and fight: The player has a given amount of time to prepare armor, weapons, enchants, potions, food, etc., then has to fight a boss! If they didn't prepare enough and die, they can try again! maybe: - Ender Dragon Run: Escape from the Ender Dragon chasing you! (This might be too difficult to implement though.)
Q: Why not make a pack for Minecraft 1.18? Why not use Fabric, etc.? A: The pack heavily uses Just Enough Dimensions, which is only available for Minecraft 1.10-1.12 Forge. The pack will be a completely unique experience, so the Minecraft version won't really matter. Plus, a lot of 1.18 mods are still constantly receiving updates, and it's difficult to develop a pack for something that's constantly changing. At the end of the day, every single thing will be customized in this pack, so the base game being 1.16 or 1.18 wouldn't matter.
