Skillful Survival is a modpack whose main aim is to extend the gameplay loop of modded Minecraft through the addition of skills (courtesy of ProjectMMO) and subsequent skill requirements for blocks, items, weapons, tools, armor, and more!
The player will, from the very start of a world, progress through loose "stages," guided by their own playstyle and goals but restricted by the levels of their skills. These skills include, to name a few, Mining, Farming, Building, Woodcutting, Agility, and Endurance, among others, and items such as pickaxes, swords, armor, and even interactable blocks like the stonecutter or fletching table are/will be restricted by a player's level in one or many skills. One must mine with a wooden pickaxe before being able to use a stone pickaxe; one must take damage before being able to wear leather or bronze armor; and so on. Plus, as you get better at certain skills, you get better at actions associated with those skills - a higher Woodcutting skill grants you a chance of chopping extra logs, higher Mining increases mining speed, higher Endurance grants extra hearts, and more!
Other highlights of the pack include:
- Aquaculture 2: Catch new types of fish like the perch, gar, or bluegill! Adorn your fishing rods with hooks and bobbers, and fashion fishing rods out of iron, gold, and even diamond!
- Comforts: Take a snooze in a sleeping bag to pass night to day without setting a new respawn point, or take a nice siesta in a hammock to turn day to night!
- Quark: Encounter new mobs like the Crab and Foxhound, discover beautiful cave crystals that emit light, and much, much more!
- Terraforged: Swim in rushing rivers, sail across vast blue oceans, climb magnificent mountains and traverse picturesque plains! Your world's geography just got turned up to 11!
- VanillaFoodPantry: Mine new ores like Natron and Rock Salt, harvest acorns from oak trees, and use ingredients new and old to craft culinary creations!
- Worley's Caves: Tired of dead-end caves with nothing of note? Suffer no longer! Explore vast, winding, serpentine cave systems that sprawl for hundreds of blocks!
At the moment, the modpack is in what I consider to be an early alpha - mods may be added, removed, or reconfigured, and skill requirements may be changed! I will endeavor to let you all know when a new world is required, optional, or not needed after each update.
