Silent Cities - Zombie Apocalypse

A 1.20.1 zombie apocalypse modpack built because I got bored of generic kitchen-sink packs and decided my graphics card needed to suffer.

What's new

Changelog (Still Beta)

Worldgen & Terrain

Fixed

  • Fixed the major world-generation crashes that were occurring during terrain generation.
  • Fixed the known mob AI crash.
  • World generation should now be significantly more stable overall.
  • more (many) fixes and additions too lazy to list and forgot lol

Important

Please use a NEW WORLD and a NEW INSTANCE.

  • Do not continue an existing world from an older version.
  • Do not install this version into an existing instance.
  • For the most reliable experience, create a completely new instance and new world.

Known Issues

  • There are still some minor world-generation issues being investigated.
  • However, the major crashes caused by world generation should now be fixed.

Crash Fixes & Stability

  • The focus is now shifting from crash prevention toward cleaning up the remaining minor issues.

Smooth Player Animations

Smooth Player Animations is now available on CurseForge. The additional installation step from previous versions is no longer required.

New & Upcoming Mods

Ragdollified โ€” Unofficial Addon

I am currently working on an unofficial Ragdollified addon. It should hopefully be finished soonish, although development is still subject to change.

  • Zombies will be able to lose individual body parts during combat.
  • Zombies will behave differently depending on which parts they have lost.
  • For example, zombies without a head or legs will have different behavior.
  • When a zombie is killed, its ragdoll corpse will reflect the state of its remaining body parts.
  • The goal is to make combat and zombie encounters feel more dynamic without turning the system into something unnecessarily complicated.

New Physics Mod

The new lightweight block physics mod is also nearing completion.

  • The goal is to keep the physics system simple and optimized.
  • Performance remains a major consideration.
  • The mod is intended to provide useful physics without the overhead of a much larger physics system.

Item Physics

I am also looking into replacing the current Item Physics Lite setup. One possibility is a Dropz fork, although this is still being investigated and is not finalized.

The goal is to find a (better) item-physics solution that fits the pack while keeping performance and fun in mind.

Current Known Issues

  • Armor rendering is currently bugged. The exact cause is unknown and may be related to accelerated rendering or another rendering interaction.
  • Some minor world-generation issues are still present.
  • These issues will be be investigated, but the major crashes are now the priority that has been resolved.

Development Direction

The biggest remaining focus is cleaning up the smaller world-generation issues and improving compatibility between the various mods in the pack.

With the major world-generation and mob-AI crashes fixed, development can now shift toward new gameplay features, physics, ragdolls, and general polish.

I will also be taking a vacation soon, so don't expect a major update over the following weeks. Development will be slower during this time, and larger updates will resume once I am back.

Peace out. ๐Ÿ‘‹
