This modpack was meant to be played in multiplayer, but can also be played alone.

For those who want aspects of both sides,
Forbidden and Arcanus, Mahou Tsukai and Ars Nouveau
can provide you with customisable magic that you can do with what you want.
Evil Magic
For those who seek more thrill in magic, there are a couple of mods that can provide that:
Blood Magic, EvilCraft and Vampirism
has the sufficiency for that, but also ways to stop the immoral.
Recommendations
You are able to add Optifine to the mod list if you like.
I recommend using the Terraforged world setting when making a world, this mod allows broad modification to your minecraft world generation.

Lore
When a magician find himself in a world beyond saving he searches for a way to open a portal to another dimension, after he succeeds his new goal is surviving and thriving in this new dimension.
Will he succeed in starting his own kingdom, or will he be tempted by the dark magic.
