Realm of Torment is an adventure-horror themed modpack featuring more than 200 mods, born with the aim of being playable by basically anyone.
The suggested RAM allocation of only 6 Gb makes it playable by virtually on every pc, even on those that have a maximum ram of 8 Gb (like mine). Nowadays, if one wants a good challenge with a minecraft modpack, the only options that they have is to download a very heavy modpack, like Prominence 2 or something alike. Not all pcs can afford to allocate that much RAM, and Realm of Torment is exactly here because of that!
For those who CAN afford to allocate a bit more RAM to the modpack, however, RoT is also fully compatible with the Serene Seasons mod, and although William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld is present as the main Overworld world–gen mod, it is completely replaceable with any other world–gen mod one might fancy (like Terralith, for example, which is my personal favourite). It is just a matter of tastes, pc performance and world-loading time. Furthermore, although I haven't added it in the mod's list for the pack to be as annoying as possible, I truly recommend playing this modpack with some gravestone–like mods (I really like the Corpse mod, for example. Remember to always download the curios compat mod too!), as especially in this pack, it is very extremely difficult to retrieve your items if the enemies that camp them were already stronger than you when you were all geared-up.
As this modpack was born also to have a difficulty comparable with that of RLCraft, its difficulty is rather high. It is very difficult to progress if you don't know the necessary steps to take in order to get stronger, especially since even encountering a single common zombie pre–diamond armor, without the necessary enchantments or spells to finish it off quick enough, will easily become a life–threatening situation. All in all, though, ROT was built with the idea not to be as vexing in the early stages of the game as RLCraft, but also significantly more difficult in the late stages of the game.
RoT is by no means a kitchen sink modpack! Rather than trying to enhance the gameplay experience by adding a ton of content, it aims to be simple – yet effective, delivering a nice challenge to the player without overloading it with stuff to do or learn. All the various mods' main features – item recipes, the chapion entities, the player stats... – have been seamlessly blended with one another, creating an equilibrium where every mod works with one another, and the final result can't do without any of them.
In its simplicity, this pack has a lot to offer:
Exploration still remains the most important thing when it comes to progressing throughout the pack, as not only does it give the player a chance to get rare treasure from the many dungeons scattered throughout the world, but it is also the best way to gain access to the easiest and strongest xp farms one could ever hope for. You just have to search well and know how to make the most out of all the opportunities given to you.
The challenges the player will have to face in his jurney through the universe of RoT will be hard: the early game stages are harsh and unforgiving, and the late game bosses are tough, strong and impossible to cheese – with an increasing difficulty system that will make the enemies progressively stronger, along with the player, to make for an incredible adventure against the terrible forces of the Tormentor.
A lot of possible companions have been added to the game, to assist the player in its his quest towards the liberation of the dimensions. Some are big, some are small, some are cute, some are not, and while some are relatively weak, many are extremely strong. While the weak are easy to convince, taming the strongest always require the toughest of challenges to be completed.
But these are only the most notable features of the pack, and only a small percentage of all the possibilities it offers. Strong armors and weapons await those strong enough to gather the materials to craft them; a world of magic opens its doors to those that wish to enter it.
And my own wish is just for you all to have fun and enjoy this modpack that I have slowly (very slowly) built, improved, tweaked and tinkered with over these past few years. I've had this project on my mind for a long time, therefore just get on with it, have some fun, and let me know if there are any ideas you might like to share to further improve the experience of playing this modpack!
