Project: Coldsnap
Can you make it through the last winter?
P:CS is a challenge-focused survival mod-pack aimed to bring the vanilla features to new levels, adding mods to enhance the main goal: Free the End. Use everything you know from your experience in vanilla and put it to the test: How much can you get done in 40 days?
FIRST RELEASE: v0.4.1 'Cool and calm update'
Philosophy:
The main twist of this pack (and reason I release it to public) is the removal of the Crafting Table. Instead of crafting everything in the boring 3x3, you will need to use other workstations to get to your resources. When was the last time you used a Cartography Table? When was the last time you were excited about the prospect of Leather Boots? Have you ever used a Smoker?
Besides the mods Create and Aquamirae there is barely any content that goes beyond vanilla. DO NOT WORRY, YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE CREATE TO GET THROUGH THIS PACK. The only elements you have to use Create are changed so much, it will feel new even to old Create fans and it is only used for resource automation. It is not the only way to survive the lands, nomads are welcome! Instead of looking for mods to add new features, I focused on extending the existing features in vanilla to enhance the progression. To give an easy example: Instead of punching the logs to get wood, you need to punch the leaves to get the resources to make a hatchet. Then you cut down the tree and use Sand Paper to turn the log into planks. With those planks you can get a Cutting Board, giving you Bark in to progress. Then you can get a Stonecutter and cut down the stripped logs into planks instead of handcrafting it.
Nearly every workstation from vanilla got enhanced and is more involved in recipes. You can go back to the crafting by using Mechanical Crafters from Create, the Crafting Blueprint or in the end the legendary 'Crafting Table on a stick', which is your only 'normal' way to craft 3x3.
Survival:
You start in the middle of winter, barely able to survive the night with a lit campfire. Every step feels like an uphill battle but the reward is worth it; nevertheless, if you are keeping up, you are already behind! Be prepared to restart the game a couple times: Every time you learn a bit more about surviving the cold. Instead of getting a crafting table within a minute and your iron armor set by minute 10, now you need plan ahead based on your surroundings. Animals are rare and angry in the cold, Villagers have joined the Pillagers to ensure their survival in masses, simply said you got no friends in this land.
Personally I got tired of a lot of other harcore-survival packs because their main challenge is stress. There is no need to stress you, I want you to be thrilled instead! We all know the random one-shot by a skeleton in the night, which turns into "box yourself in and wait for the next day". Not only is it boring but this would literally waste your time, leaving you frustrated. Instead I tried to give you challenges you can pick on your terms and run away if you are not ready. The enemies scale with time and wear armor but if you use your resources wisely, you can avoid the Witches and Pillagers through the land and fight them later.

for making working on mod-packs fun, you are the real heroes.
PS:
This is a one-guy fun project. The updates will be sporadic like any fun project, the challenge and balancing is based on my experience. If anything feels too easy, feel free to tweak the configs or let me know what challenge you added for fun! This pack should be tough to beat but fair along every step. There are no hidden recipes, I try to give you as much explanation as possible and there are no features just to 'get you'. Every recipe is in JEI and the questline is the same progress as I follow in my own runs. As oyu can guess, a lot of the numbers are not balanced yet, just a placeholder to ensure the pack works. With each update, I will try to make tweaks to the numbers instead of adding new features, proving what I learned from my mistakes in the other packs.
Thank you for the time and I hope you have a blast playing this!
