The calm of the daylight is deceptive. The empire has fallen and is now but remnants while its six successor states are locked in a never-ending struggle against the massive undead hordes that rule the night. The common man suffers under the harsh oppression of the aristocracy and the violence of the horde. Scholarly pursuits are ignored, and the rites of the old gods are long forgotten as strange settlers speaking in strange tongues swoop in to stake their claim.
