POUDEWCRAFT: TIDES
A 1.20.1 Forge modpack where your ship is your home, and every island you reach is stranger and more dangerous than the last.
You wake on a beach with nothing. By the end you'll be crossing open ocean in a vessel you rebuilt four times, hunting things that live where nobody sensible sails.
Tides is built around one idea: you live on a ship. Not a base on shore with a boat tied to it — a vessel you construct block by block, that carries everything you own, and that grows with you.
Build a Ship That Actually Sails
Valkyrien Skies 2, Eureka, Clockwork, Create Propulsion
Build a hull out of any blocks you like, place a helm, and assemble it. It becomes a real physics object — you walk around inside it while it moves, feel it list under cargo, watch the waterline climb as you add a second deck.
What this changes: buoyancy is genuine physics, not a flag. A hollow hull floats; a solid one sinks. You'll learn to build below the waterline for volume and above it for living space. When your ship starts riding low, that's the game telling you to rebuild — and rebuilding your ship is the single longest-running project in the pack.
Make It Yours
Create, Every Compat, Chipped, Rechiseled, 9× Macaw's, Supplementaries, Building Gadgets 2, Diagonal Blocks
Windmills that turn while you sail. Mechanical cranes loading the hold. Rigging, railings, pitched roofs, portholes, lanterns swinging from rope.
What this changes: Every Compat generates every building block in every wood in the pack, so your hull material has doors, windows, roofs and furniture that didn't exist before. Create gives the ship moving parts. The result is that no two players' vessels look remotely alike.
Cross an Ocean Worth Crossing
Continents, Terralith, Biomes O' Plenty, Serene Seasons, Dungeons Arise: Seven Seas
Landmasses sit far apart with islands scattered between them. Hundreds of biomes mean no two landfalls look the same. Seasons turn — a crossing that's pleasant in summer is a bad idea in winter.
What this changes: sailing is the game, not the loading screen between locations. Voyages take real time, need real provisions, and the sea is a place rather than a gap.
Climb a Ladder of Bosses
L_Ender's Cataclysm, Bosses of Mass Destruction, Mowzie's Mobs, Aquamirae, Better Combat
Ferrous Wroughtnaut in a stone monastery. Captain Cornelia in a graveyard of frozen wrecks. Scylla in a sunken city, summoning a storm as she fights. The Leviathan, immune to damage out of water. Ignis in a burning hall, healing off your life.
What this changes: these bosses cap incoming damage and resist specific damage types to defeat one-shot builds. Armour will not save you — reading the fight will. Each lives in a purpose-built arena, and several respawn at full health if you leave, so there's no chipping away across trips.
Earn Your Weapons
Spartan Weaponry, Spartan Shields, Spartan Cataclysm, Cataclysmic Combat
Two dozen weapon types — spears, sabers, boomerangs, longbows, war hammers — in sixteen material tiers.
What this changes: Spartan Cataclysm ties the weapon tiers directly to boss drops. ancient_metal → black_steel → cursium → ignitium → witherite, each material off something you had to kill. Every weapon type exists in every tier, so you pick a fighting style and climb it. Kill something, forge the weapon, use it on the next thing.
Run the Ship Like a Ship
Tom's Simple Storage, Storage Drawers, Traveler's Backpack, Aquaculture 2, Farmer's Delight
One terminal on the bridge showing your entire hold, with a crafting grid attached. Fishing that sustains a month-long crossing. A galley that turns the catch into meals worth eating.
What this changes: cargo capacity is range. How much you can carry decides how far you can go, and a voyage you can't provision is a voyage you can't make.
Write Your Ship an Autopilot
CC: Tweaked, CC: VS
A programmable computer bolted to the deck with direct control of the ship.
What this changes: for players who want it, this is a hundred-hour project of its own — heading hold, sail-to-coordinates, a full navigation console with monitors. Entirely optional, and entirely yours.
A Questbook That Teaches
FTB Quests — 10 chapters, 68 quests, written for this pack
Not a checklist. Each chapter takes one system and explains it properly — why buoyancy comes from enclosed air, why the space below your waterline can't be rooms, why armour won't save you from a Cataclysm boss, why every waystone you place makes the ocean smaller.
What this changes: you can play this pack without having played any of these mods before. Chapters I–VIII teach one system each in any order; IX and X are the boss ladder.
Custom Content
Tides includes original content built for this pack:
- The Cutlass — a custom weapon with a hand-modelled 3D model, faster than a sword, granting increased swim speed while held
- Custom questbook — 68 quests written specifically for this modlist
- Custom main menu — original logo, panorama, and interface
Performance and Visuals
Embeddium, Oculus, Canary, FerriteCore, ModernFix, AmbientSounds, Sound Physics Remastered
Full shader support. Layered ocean ambience and real reverb below deck. 8GB RAM recommended.
Who This Is For
If you want to build something, sail it a very long way, and fight what's waiting at the other end — this is that pack.
If you'd rather never leave the shore, it probably isn't.
