A CHILLING UPDATE...
It sure has been a while, huh?
Well, fear not, because this new update might be my favorite one yet! So much so, that I've personally ventured out into the Storm to bring back some subjects, in order to show off the newest features that are coming with this incredible update.
Ya see, my aim with Permafrost has always been to create a completely unique experience and story, that can't be replicated anywhere else. Each of this pack's updates have reflected that, from the wonderful new structures, to the addition of fun new systems. This update is meant to visually solidify that. So, c'mon in. Let me show you what I mean.

These are the Chilled. You know 'em, you hate 'em. This cast of four mobs that have come to represent the main threats of Permafrost have gotten a new coat of paint, unifying their appearances in accordance with the Stray's color scheme and really showing the fact that these mobs are forever linked. The Ice Elemental will come later. Notice the Wraith's swanky new robes and frosted bones... along with the Frozen Zombie's new greyscale look, with its head covered in snow.
Let's move on.
The Chilled aren't the only ones with a new look. The dwellers of the lush caves, the Creeper and Klifour, have also been redesigned! With its mossy coat of paint, the creeper will sneak right up on you... and the Klifour, while not sprouted, is pretty hard to spot amongst the moss and azalea plants. I spent a lot of time completely respriting the Creeper itself, so you'd better appreciate it. And that isn't even mentioning how much of a hassle it was to get it into this display!
Now, for the Ice Elementals, sporting a dulled ice color to make them fit in more with the rest of the Chilled... and what's that in there with them?
That's right, folks. That right there is a fifth Chilled. The Frozen Ghoul doesn't have as many tricks up its sleeve as the other four, but its speed, strength, and health more than make up for it. This roided up Frozen Zombie also has a very special characteristic... only spawning during a special new event called a Horde.
That's right. The Chilled don't just spawn near you, now. Every 10-15 nights, a massive horde of Chilled mobs will coalesce with a terrifying sound, seeking to snuff out your heat. Once you survive enough of these, more powerful Chilled will join the fray. From Wraiths, to Ghouls, to even Ice Elementals after a certain point... these nights are sure to be terrifying tests of your strength and willingness to survive the Permafrost.
Only time will tell whether or not you've got what it takes to survive these onslaughts.
CONTENT
In addition, there are a few new features coming with this update, as well as several fixes to the system which open up a variety of possibilities that Permafrost's obstructive programming had blocked off before.
FEATURES
- A massive array of new structures, which were previously blocked from spawning by Primal Winter and CaveBiomeAPI. Explore massive subterranean dungeons, discover long abandoned homes and ruins of what was once there, and plunder fortresses deep beneath the world's frigid surface.
- Snow now builds up differently. Gone are the days when any build on the surface would get covered by MASSIVE SHEETS OF SNOW! Snow now only piles up to 4 layers, making building on the surface much more feasible and the environment much less... er... stifled.
- A whole lot of mods have been updated, patching bugs and generally just making the experience a lot smoother.
- Shulker's Super Simple Structure System was removed and replaced by Worldshape. The custom structures should now be a lot less intrusive (If more uncommon), and should no longer spawn on top of already existing structures.
PATCHES
- Probably fixed a soft/hard that was caused by champion lava monsters.
- Ice elementals do a bit less damage. They were already terrifying, y'all. I at least want you people to survive if you try and run from them.
- The Lava Shrine quest causing a crash was fixed.
- Mineshafts should now more consistently have the Lost Eye in their loot tables.
