Description
A Hardcore-ishh, vanilla-ishhh modpack; with demigod like abilities at endgame...
Vanilla-ish extended early game:
You don't gotta be Survivor Man to make it in the early game but, it'll take a bit more effort than punch wood, get stone, make furnace. A compact furnace requires iron and, cutting wood with wood, well it's not the most efficient method...
Back to the earliest days of Minecraft, there was a mechanic where you could throw items into fire to smelt them. This has been brought back through the mod "Popcorn Smelting".. To start smelting craft a "Fire Stick" and build a firing pit or large scale furnace using some fire proof blocks and the popcorn smelting mechanic. The items will need to bounce a few times in the fire before smelting then, don't let them bounce back into the fire once they are done smelting. Popcorn smelting has some advantages and disadvantages.. For one, it's takes a lot less fuel but, there is a chance of destroying your items. For two, popcorn smelting is not as convenient but, it's pretty cool to smelt TONS of items all at once in a large scale smelter you built yourself and made as effective as possible using redstone.
Crafting early game tools:
It's pretty simple. Craft gravel into rocks then, craft rocks and a stick into tools in the 2x2 crafting grid. You can make wood tools but, it's not very effective. You can punch wood but, your going to destroy most of it with that powerhouse of a punch you got. Seriously monks and marshal arts masters would be jealous of those tree breaking punches your Minecraft character throws! ;-)
Recommendation:
If you want the full early game experience then I strongly recommend you Don't start on a village seed. If you wanna skip the early game and go straight to the mid-game then find a village seed and play on that. It's up to you. :-)
No quests, make your own journey:
Minecraft is at it's heart a sandbox game and it always will be.. While I greatly appreciate all the work done by mod makers and modpack makers to make 100's and 100's of quest for their respective modpacks and mods. I always find them little distracting from the sandbox element of the game. I didn't wanna follow the quests or have my hand held through the modpack experience I wanted to experience it on my own terms. So if that sounds like you to then you'll probably be happy to see that there is not 100's of quests waiting to completed at the start of this particular modpack. But, that doesn't mean there isn't a lot to do, on the contrary there is so much to do and explore, you'll just have to discover it in a Minecrafty way. ;-)
Some achievements can be important:
For some mods included in the pack the achievements tab can be very useful. Don't ignore it completely.
Nonlinear technological progression:
I envisioned technology progression to be more like a tree rather than a straight ladder to the top. Start at the base of the tree and choose your own branch to climb so to speak. Pick what works for you. Mix and match different kinds of technology in your base or be a purest and go down one path. Not all kinds of technologies are compatible though, you won't be using starlight magic to make uranium. There are many paths to the endgame and many ways of doing things. :-)
Become a "ghost" when you die:
Death is at the same time a little more noticeable and a little less annoying in this modpack. Your Minecraft character won't be instantly shrugging off death a second after it happens nor will you lose absolutely everything you own upon death. On death the player will enter into "a ghostly state" of existence and drop all items they can't carry back to their bed location. They will be able to carry/keep any item(s) in their hand, off hand and most kinds of items worn on their person like armor, hats or baubles. All other items will be dropped.
Nine lives:
The player will start with 9 lives and will regenerate lost lives up to 9 remaining, at a rate of one every hour and 15 minutes of play time. The player can gain more than 9 lives through a couple of methods available in the modpack. If the player looses all their lives it's like Minecraft hardcore mod and they have to restart in a new Minecraft world.
No portals required? Break bedrock to travel dimensions:
Thanks to the genius of mod maker "cd4017be" this mod pack features "Vertically Stacked Dimensions". Have you ever envisioned The Nether being below the Overworld? Well in this modpack it is, and so is every other dimension come to think of it, well all except the Aether and The End of course. Or wait... if that one is their and that is... hmmm..... does that mean? Are they all above the Overworld?? You decide what you think... ;)
The Charged Emerald Pickaxe:
Crafting a special pickaxe made from Charged Emeralds will allowed to to break bedrock at the cost of lapis lazuli and travel to The Nether and.. a whole lot of other places to. Once you see the purple "dimensional bone marrow" that separates the dimensions you know your close. Take a diamond pickaxe or similar and search the surface of the purple substance for an opening. It may take a little bit of looking and mining but, I assure you nothing is broken. Also mine the surface of different blocks don't just hit the same purple block over and over again or you'll break your pickaxe in a hurry. You need to look around to find an entrance. Once your pickaxe hits an opening and breaks through then the purple blocks will disappear. Jump into the void like opening to get to the other side. Climb back up... or down? To get back to wear you came from.
Notes on Charged Emerald Pickaxes and dimensional travel:
- The Charged Emerald Pickaxe is supposed to be a specialized tool. Don't mine anything but, bedrock with it. Oh, and just another note, you don't get the bedrock back as a block you can place or anything it's just destroyed .
- The purple stuff is two blocks deep. You might find an opening that isn't quite deep enough and is just one block deep that's normal. In this case just keep looking around. There might be a larger opening near by.
- One can transport items directly into another dimension by use of an "Interdimensional Vessal".
Player Health:
The player will start with 6 hearts worth of health and as you progress there are many ways to gain more hearts. You could end up with hundreds of hearts worth of health if you really tried and played your cards right. But, then again, you may end up needing them in The End...
Here is just a few ways of collecting hearts:
- Gain more hearts from mining and finding heart crystal ore.
- Gain more hearts from hunting monsters.
- Gain more hearts from eating LOTS of food.
Dragons are higher in "the food chain":
Dragons are primal force and the power of the elements! They represent the destructive and creative power of nature. They are not to be taken lightly or to be seen as potential "pets". Only a god may try to tame a dragon.
Regular dragons vs The Ender Dragon:
While regular ice element or fire element dragons pose more danger and harm to the player the Ender Dragon is immune to harm from most regular forms of attack.
The Ender Dragon is no pushover:
The Ender Dragon is a vacuous phantasmal apparition she can nether touch blocks nor destroy them. She can't be hurt by regular items, most weapons will simply bounce off of her or pass through without leaving a mark. She can't leave the center island where the towers keep her alive. What is she? And, what are we freeing exactly?
Demigod powers in the endgame lots of fun to be had in the mid-game:
Craft tools of transcendent magical and technical power. Gain power through various ways to become a minecrafter with demigod like power. Master all the realms. Travel all the dimensions. Summon oat meal sheep?? And, farm pink eggs?? Heck, you can even craft bedrock if your really determined to make your base impenetrable or create the perfect Wither farm or something.
A Warm Thank You To The Minecraft Community:
In total this modpack is the product of 1000's and 10,000's of hours of work from the Minecraft Community. Many people around the world have contributed and made this particular project possible. From Jeb, Notch, The Minecraft Development Team, Mod Makers, Pack Makers, Utility Makers, Youtubers, Wiki Writers have all contributed so much together to make this possible and I am so thankful for everything you all have done.
After having put 1,000's of hours in on my end to put this tailored experience of Minecraft together for you modpack players out there. I can say that it is truly amazing all that has been done out of a passion for this game. Please stop by on social media, on the mod pages or wherever you feel comfortable and just tell the creative genesis behind this game and the mods and modpacks thank you for all the work they do and the fun times it gives us.
Please remember mod makers create mods for free out of a passion to create or to learn or what ever their reason is; please treat them with the same respect you'd like to get from other people in that situation.
Technical Stuff, Please Read Carefully:
No Portals required is not the smallest pack but, size isn't everything. I've done a lot of tweaking of the generation and things to try to make this pack as easy as possible to run without compromising content. There are a few mods in the pack that also help make life a bit easier for slower computers. BetterFps is one, FoamFix is another for example.
With that being said for No Portals Required I'd still defiantly recommend a good computer. You should give the modpack about 4 GB to 6+ GB of RAM. That's 4000 MB to 6680 MB at max. Try to run it on at least an i5 or equivalent processor if you can. The system I use is a regular off the shelf gaming PC with an i7 and 12 GB of RAM. Lag spikes I've experienced generally only happen when loading completely new chunks quickly. When I'm working at my base or farming or whatever I get 70-ish+ FPS. And, of course depending on which dimension you are in it can be a little more or a little less hard on your PC. If you lag turn the render distance down. Also, you can go into "Options..." from the main menu, then go to "BetterFps Options", then Shift Right Click the "Algorithm Button" (the very top one). It will try to find the best Algorithm for your computer. It's possible that it could help your FPS a lot, or a little, or none at all if the default algorithm is already the most effective for your computer system.
Thanks Again!
