Description
Welcome to MingusCraft by Dr Mingus!
This is my first time making my own modpack after many years of using packs premade by others. I expect very few people will find this and even fewer will actually try it out, so congratulations! If you're reading this you are one of the few who is lucky enough (or perhaps unlucky enough) to discover MingusCraft.
So what the heck is MingusCraft?
While designing this pack, I followed three general rules:
- Only one or two mods per category
I tried to avoid bloating the pack with redundant mods that do the same things in different ways. MingusCraft has only one or two mods from each main category, so that it is more focused on those mods in particular. Besides, I think it's better to leave the creation of incredibly large packs to those with more modding experience, such as the ATM Team. - Focus on quality over quantity
MingusCraft mostly consists of mods I have previously used in other packs that stood out. Almost every mod in this pack was specifically selected because I personally found it to be of high quality, so if there's something you don't like, you can credit it to my poor taste! - Replacing the squid people with humans to make the world feel more alive
MingusCraft contains Minecraft Comes Alive, a mod that replaces all villagers with humans that the player can form relationships with and even marry. MingusCraft also includes a resource pack that turns all illagers into humans. This is likely the most controversial feature of the pack, and one not everyone will enjoy, but I encourage you to give it a try - it makes your singleplayer worlds feel a lot less lonely.
The overall result is a modpack that still feels somewhat Vanilla+ while adding or changing enough things to keep Minecraft feeling fresh and exciting.
Pre-configured and ready to go!
MingusCraft comes with all necessary config files, shaders, and resource packs preconfigured with no additional setup necessary, aside from the usual steps of allocating RAM (16GB is recommended for this pack) and setting your in-game resolution. You're free to configure MingusCraft however you like for a tailored experience; just be warned, however, that some settings are configured in such a way so as to not break the modpack. Change things at your own risk!
Oh and don't use 1.20.1's "experimental" Bundle feature; the pack already includes them with Vanilla Backport.
(Not-so) Frequently Asked Questions:
Why Silent Gear instead of Tinkers' Construct?
The newer versions of Tinkers' Construct have made many changes that I no longer think are fun and have, in my opinion, drastically lowered the quality and usefulness of the mod.
Can I disable the humans?
The Minecraft Comes Alive mod is built into the pack so you'd have to fork your own version in order to remove it. Human illagers can be disabled by turning off the respective resource pack.
Is this a horror modpack?
While horror is subjective, and there are some custom mobs and dimensions in this pack that could be considered scary, there are no mods in this pack that focus exclusively on horror. I cannot guarantee you won't be jumpscared, though :)
Did you use AI to create MingusCraft?
Every mod in MingusCraft was hand-picked by Dr Mingus, and every config file in MingusCraft was tweaked by Dr Mingus. It is worth noting that Dr Mingus is, in fact, a human.
AI was only used to resolve mod incompatibilites, find dependencies, and to write the legal disclaimer at the bottom of this page.
What happened to MingusCraft 1.0? Why is the 2.0 the first public version?
We don't talk about MingusCraft 1.0.
Boring legal stuff…
