Description

Matcha Flavoured TO THE MAX!

A slow-progression survival world built around monstrous mountains and a food-and-loot overhaul — for Fabric 26.2.

⚠️ Required Datapack Order — Read Before Playing

The pack will not work properly unless your datapack list is in this exact order, top to bottom:

  1. Snow & Blizzard Fix (top / highest priority)
  2. JJThunder To The Max
  3. Matcha Flavoured (bottom)

The Snow & Blizzard Fix has to sit above JJThunder To The Max so its biome temperature overrides actually apply instead of getting overwritten. Getting this order wrong means broken snow/blizzard behavior at minimum, so check it before you generate your world.

Overview

Matcha Flavoured TO THE MAX! takes two beloved standalone data packs — a gameplay/progression overhaul and an extreme world-generation pack — and builds a full 180-mod Fabric environment around them. The mountains here are nearly 2,000 blocks tall, the food and enchanting systems are completely reworked to reward slow, casual play instead of mob-farm grinding, and the whole thing is wrapped in performance mods, immersion mods, and quality-of-life tools so it actually runs well despite the ambition.

This pack is for people who want:

  • A long-haul "forever world" with real climbing, real seasons, and real scale
  • Survival progression that isn't just "make an XP farm, get enchants, done"
  • A curated 180-mod list that stays vanilla-plus in feel rather than turning into a kitchen-sink pack

Core Concept #1 — Matcha Flavoured (by Klei)

Not made by me — this data/resource pack is the reason the whole modpack exists.

Matcha Flavoured rebuilds Minecraft's core gameplay loop around casual, slow-paced play instead of optimized grinding. According to its own listing, it's built for players who don't enjoy setting up mob farms or engaging with the technical/redstone side of the game, aiming to let a casual player gather resources at the same rate a "technical" player would.

Highlights pulled from the pack itself:

  • ~50 new foods, plus 12 ingredients that now carry their own potion-effect intrinsics
  • 4 new metal alloys added to the equipment progression (stone tools are gone — you go Wood → Copper → Iron, etc.)
  • Hunger and natural regeneration have been removed and replaced by the new food system
  • Villager trades and enchanting have both been reworked from scratch
  • New enchantments, "blessings" (multi-enchant combos), special treasures/loot, and a full custom soundtrack (including a music disc made in memory of the creator's dog)
  • Shulkers, the End, and other traditionally "late-game" systems are pulled forward into normal progression

The data pack and resource pack are the same file dropped into both slots, and the pack is designed to be basically its own mini-mod — this pack simply builds the rest of the modpack (mods, world gen, performance tuning) to support it properly.

Core Concept #2 — JJThunder To The Max (World Generation)

This is the world generation backbone of the whole pack. It's a Terra-1-to-1-styled generation overhaul that replaces vanilla terrain with dramatically taller mountains (roughly 1,900 blocks from base to peak), flatter plains, deeper oceans, and a new noise-cave system that grows from small claustrophobic caves near the surface into an enormous, effectively endless cave layer called the Underlands the deeper you go.

World height with this pack installed runs from Y = -64 to Y = 2032.

Because of how demanding this kind of generation is, a couple of things matter a lot for a smooth experience:

  • Pre-generate your world with Chunky. JJThunder's terrain generation and the Streams mod (rivers/streams reflow) are both CPU-heavy the first time a chunk generates — after that, chunks are cheap to load. Run a Chunky pregeneration pass before exploring and you avoid the stutter entirely.
  • Give the instance plenty of RAM — 8GB+ is a safe baseline for generation like this.
  • Datapack order matters — see the required order at the top of this listing.
  • This does not work retroactively on existing worlds — start fresh.

My Personal Data Pack — JJThunder To The Max: Snow & Blizzard Fix

This one's mine — built specifically to make JJThunder's 1900-block mountains feel like actual mountains instead of vanilla hills that just got taller.

The Problem It Solves

In vanilla (and in JJThunder by default), whether snow appears is driven by each biome's own temperature value — a taiga is cold and snowy at any height, a jungle never snows no matter how high it goes. That's fine on a normal-height world, but it falls apart completely on a world where mountains reach nearly Y=1900: you'd get snowy taiga peaks right next to bone-dry jungle peaks at the exact same altitude, which doesn't feel like real mountains at all.

The Fix — Normalizing Temperature So Altitude Does the Work

This pack overrides 31 of the biomes JJThunder generates on its slopes and peaks (forests, taigas, jungles, plains, swamps, the underground biomes, stony peaks/shores, etc. — frozen rivers and JJThunder's molten biomes are deliberately left untouched) and sets every one of them to the same flat temperature value. That neutralizes each biome's "natural" snowline entirely, so snowfall stops being a biome property and becomes purely a function of how high up you are — exactly like a real mountain, where the snow line doesn't care what's growing at the base.

With that leveled out, here's how the mountain actually behaves from bottom to top, scaled against JJThunder's 2032 build limit and ~1900-block peaks:

Elevation Behavior
Y 0 – ~1232 Normal biome behavior — grass, trees, rain instead of snow, no debuffs
~Y 1232 Snowline begins — precipitation starts falling and settling as snow regardless of which of the 31 biomes you're standing in
Y 1232 – 1844 Snowy alpine zone — cold, snow-covered, but survivable indefinitely
Y 1844+ Blizzard threshold. Only while it's precipitating (rain or snow), the mountain starts actively fighting back
~Y 1900 Typical peak height for JJThunder's mountains — meant to be brutally hard to summit
Y 2032 Absolute world height ceiling

What the Blizzard Actually Does Above Y 1844 (Only While It's Precipitating)

Checked every tick, per player, only once you're at or above Y 1844 and the weather is actively raining/snowing:

  • Constant snowflake and cloud particles around the player for a whiteout effect
  • Slowness II, refreshed continuously — the wind is fighting you
  • Darkness, sustained rather than pulsed, so it actually reads as a proper whiteout instead of a flicker
  • Frostbite damage — 1 damage every 3 seconds you stay up there
  • The instant you drop below Y 1844 or the weather clears, every debuff is cut immediately — no lingering effects

The practical rule this creates: never start a mountain climb if it's raining. The blizzard doesn't care whether it's "just rain" lower down or snow up top — the moment you cross Y 1844 during any precipitation, you're taking sustained damage and fighting slowness and near-total darkness at the same time. Clear-weather climbs are still cold and snowy above Y 1232, but survivable. The intent, basically, is Everest: getting to the base of a peak is a hike, but standing on the actual summit during a storm should feel like it's trying to kill you.

Installation Notes

  • Datapack order is required, not optional: Snow & Blizzard Fix → JJThunder To The Max → Matcha Flavoured (top to bottom). See the notice at the top of this page.
  • Do not load Matcha Flavoured through Modrinth's auto-install — it has to be dropped manually into the world's datapacks folder (already handled for you via the pack's overrides).
  • This is meant to be started as a fresh world, not added to an existing one — JJThunder's world generation will not retroactively apply, and Matcha Flavoured shuffles vanilla item/recipe placement enough that an existing world can break.
  • Pre-generate your world with Chunky before exploring, to skip the CPU spike from JJThunder's terrain generation and Streams' river generation.
  • Allocate at least 8GB RAM.
  • If you see "Matcha Flavoured is now loaded" in chat on world join, everything's installed correctly.
