The MMM Modpack like many others has a large focus on automation, magic, and food production. Along your journey you will also have the option to fight various bosses for various rewards though quests. I have FTB quests installed and should be fully implemented later but for now only has the boss tree. This should give a sense of progression to players as they go though their mod of choice.
