This is an idea for a lucky block gamemode that I haven't really seen in the wild before, so I made a simple modpack and commands for it here. DO NOTE that there is some setup required that I will describe later. Essentially, in a new survival world, you paste the command structure and begin the game when you flip the lever. Players will have 5 minutes to loot as many lucky blocks as possible before permadeath becomes active. During that 5 minutes, you will not lose anything from your inventory, and players will drop their items and be sent to spectator if they die after the 5 minutes passes. Over the course of the game, the border will close in to 20 blocks over an 7 minute period. The last player alive when permadeath becomes active wins!
Setup: use the worldedit axe (which is just the vanilla wood axe) to select the sign on the top left of the command structure in the provided map by left clicking and selecting the opposite corner of the structure by right clicking. Then, stand on the command block with the lever and type "//copy" into the chat (it copies relative to your position, so if you stand on the lever, it will spawn beneath you when you paste it and it will be easy to start the game). Then, create a new survival world and make sure to either enable cheats when creating the world or enable it in the essentials menu when inviting other players. Then, type "//paste" into the chat to paste that structure. Just flip the lever to start the game. The structure will still be copied until the game is closed, so you can simply paste it every time you create a new world until you close the game.
Note: do NOT update the lucky block mod, as the game will break. You can and should, however, keep the essentials mod up to date.
Tips: I would advise resetting the world if you spawn on an island in the middle of nowhere or in a jungle. Blocks do not spawn in the ocean and blocks spawn very infrequently in jungles, making the games much less interesting.
Bugs: there are only a couple of bugs. 1 is that when hosting via the essential mod, the host will inexplicably crash when using lucky swords (except for the TNT lucky sword). 2 is that sometimes (very rarely) permadeath will fail to activate.
