This is how you died.
☣️ The Ultimate Hardcore Sandbox
Welcome to the definitive modpack for How You Died, a hardcore survival experience ported and reimagining a Project Zomboid concept. Set within a beautifully decayed, overgrown world, you must utilize heavy industry, tactical vehicular transit, and high-caliber firearms to survive against mutated entities that hunt by sight and sound.
Optimized and heavily recommended for Hardcore Mode to truly capture the brutal, tactical survival energy of the apocalypse.
🕹️ Current Features & Mechanics
- The S-1 Bio-Threat (How You Died): Face three custom terrifying entities. Smilers are durable tanks that track you strictly by sound. Bleeders hunt relentlessly by sight. Dog Bleeders act as hyper-fast pack scouts that hamstring you and howl to call the horde.
- Firearms & Industrial Power (TacZ & Create Ecosystem): Access a massive military arsenal to defend your perimeter, or tap into advanced automation. With the base power of Create alongside The Factory Must Grow, you can evolve your base from simple clockwork engineering to full heavy oil processing, steel metallurgy, concrete fortification, and industrial electrical grids. [1, 2, 3]
- Acoustic Danger Loops: Build armored supply lines and cross-city subway systems to transport vital resources—but choose your movements wisely. Gunfire, running combustion engines, heavy machinery, and speeding trains generate massive sound footprints that pull entities from chunks away.
- Systemic Environments (Weather2 & Burnt): Fire and weather are fully interactive. Wildfires realistically spread, consume blocks, and leave behind charred ruins—now fully integrated to burn and destroy dynamic forest systems as well. Localized supercells and tornadoes from Weather2 will dynamically fight raging fires with rain, while fierce windstorms will actively bend and whip the dense smoke and ash plumes generated by burning blocks. [1]
- Overhauled World Generation & Survival Navigation: Explore a stunningly ruined world generated by The Lost Cities, Terralith, and Dynamic Trees, packed with abandoned structures and bunkers to scavenge. Map your surroundings and track your waypoints using Xaero's World Map and Minimap, and use Walkie-Chat to communicate over local radio channels.

/mods/ folder.- Recommended RAM Allocation: 10GB is the recommended baseline for smooth operation with active physics engines and heavy mod integration. Allocating significantly higher than 10GB is discouraged as it can trigger severe Java Garbage Collection micro-stutters, which are lethal in high-intensity combat.
- Built-In Shaders & Optimization: Fully optimized using Embeddium and NeOculus. This pack comes pre-loaded with premium shader profiles (Solas Shader, DMS, and Miniature Shader) to lock down a gritty, dark, and terrifyingly atmospheric visual style.
