The cold is deadly, but there are far worse things hiding in the darkness. Manage your temperature, craft some warm clothes or build a fire, and be wary of the night.
Optifine is currently recommended for playing.
Download Optifine from the link and drop it into your mods folder(don't run it).
Working on phasing out Optifine, too many incompatibilities with these older mods.
Tips:
-There is a starter map (The Outpost), in case you don't want to be dropped in the wild and need a softer introduction. It's stocked with warm clothes, some tools, food, and an industrial diesel generator.
-The Outpost is extremely isolated. You'll need to make a trek down the mountain and build your own shelter.
- It's Dark. Unreasonably dark. Optifine is useful for handheld light, but if you don't want that then you should craft A LOT of torches.
- Build a campfire, as soon as you can. And gather/craft a bunch of sticks. You can use them to start the fire, but you'll go through a few. Add logs to keep your campfire going.
- Try to find shelter from the blizzard, your max health will go down when you have hypothermia.
- Don't get caught by a Rifter. If you end up in The Midnight, you need to find another portal to get out. I'm told the lightning can help.
- You have time before some of the more horrifying mobs show up. Use it well.
This mod pack focuses on immersion and a feeling of isolation. It has a sense of difficulty while not being unreasonable. There are waystones, backpacks, bedrolls, and a mini map. Scape and Run: Parasites has been toned down and is now a more casual experience. Beyond the Veil is hard to balance due to non-existent documentation but it'll happen gradually. All mods will be listed below.
Incompatibilities:
Better Foilage breaks part of The Midnight. Turns a lot of plants into black and pink missing textures/models. (Removed)
Realistic Terrain Generation breaks Beyond The Veil's biome generation. (Removed)
BetterAnimalsPlusPlus feral wolves crash a server randomly, but not clients. (Switched to using the original `BetterAnimalsPlus`)
Fysh's Undead Rising ghost rays will stall a client if they get pushed into a block. (Spawns disabled)
The Betweenlands won't work if Optifine is installed. (Considering alternatives)
