Fungal Infection Spore: Genocide

Extremely hard Fungal Infection: Spore modpack that completely reworks the progression and more.

It has been 30 years. 30 years since those things got out. They took everyone. Everything. They ravaged it all until nothing was left. They all starved, having destroyed the only thing that could keep them going. But they are back...

This is Fungal Infection Spore: Genocide. A hardcore+ modpack based in an alternate version of the Fungal Infection Spore timeline, where a dormant remnant of the fungus carrying a mutation that allowed it to infect all mammals, not just humans was encountered by some creature or another, and allowed the near-extinct parasitic fungus to rise again. This modpack is intentionally unbalanced and is made for the people who think normal FIS is too easy. It features harsher survival mechanics, stronger mobs, and a far more aggressive version of everyone's favorite silly shrooms. The progression has also been reworked, with the Proto Hivemind becoming a full-on final boss that must be hunted down and exterminated with the endgame weapons of the modpack. The win condition is to defeat the Proto Hivemind through any means available in cheatless survival. If you beat the pack legit and send proof to deinocheirus_gaming on discord, your name will be placed here.

How to play:

Starting:

Upon spawning in, you will have 60 seconds of immunity to the effects of temperature. Use this to find shelter immediately. Once you have a suitable area to live, find a loose stone on the ground. This will allow flint obtained from gravel to be turned into flint tools, along with a stick from breaking leaves. Once you have basic flint tools, gather wood to properly begin. A village is extremely helpful earlygame as it will give shelter from the elements and may have iron, allowing the player to bypass the earlygame grind into normal Minecraft progression. It is recommended to try and get a bed to sleep through the first night, as once the Spore starts on the surface, it is relentless.

Earlygame:

Until you have more advanced items, it is recommended to not stay in one place too long. Along with the fungal infection slowly creeping up from the caves, increasing local difficulty will make mobs stronger, and any long-term base is at risk of being destroyed by a tornado. Find a good source of food and clean water to have any chance at surviving. Make sure to be careful when exploring though, as a broken bone from a fall can prove deadly. One must be extremely careful in the caves, as this is where the fungal infection will likely begin. It is almost impossible to see, and torches can burn out so prepare well and use surface or underwater ores where possible. Avoid confrontations with infected until you have iron gear, as there is a high chance for infected to spawn scents, which can quickly overwhelm a player in a cave.

 Midgame:

After getting decent gear and a food source, the next step is to craft your first guns. Create a gunsmithing table and gather the required resources for one of the easier to craft guns. These are an extremely useful tool as they can quickly kill tougher enemies from a distance. It is important to maintain their durability and ammo however, and to always have a backup weapon incase your main one jams. By this point, the spore has likely advanced rapidly and large areas underground are becoming infected, with some potentially reaching the surface. CDUs can be crafted to delay the spread, but it is better to leave areas where the infection has taken hold, as there are likely complex cave systems full of fungus. Setting up in a cold biome can help reduce the spread of the spore, but it is still only delaying the inevitable. This is also about when you should start getting diamond gear.

The Nether:

In order to unlock endgame items, it is essential to visit the Nether. Everything about getting to the nether and gathering it's resources is the same as vanilla, except for the added challenge of managing temperature in the lava-filled hellhole. The 2 most important resources will be Blaze Rods and Netherite. At least a stack of Blaze Rods and a few dozen Netherite ingots is needed to make and supply the endgame weapons needed to defeat the Proto Hivemind. Nether portals must be guarded however, as in the unlikely event an infected wanders in, the fungus can mutate and infect Piglins, Hoglins and Endermen, allowing it to proliferate in the Nether and become extremely hard to control.

Lategame:

After gathering the resources from the Nether, it is time to mine. Time to mine a lot. By now, there should be a Proto Hivemind. Unlike the normal version, FIS: Genocide's Proto has 2000 HP and will attack via various means in a drawn-out bossfight. Only one proto Hivemind will spawn per 128 Chunks. To defeat it, the endgame guns are required. These are the M134 Minigun and M107 Sniper Rifle. Both of these guns require 8 stacks of iron along with many other materials to craft, and are difficult to keep supplied with ammo. They are extremely powerful however, and have more durability than the other guns. The M134 is a minigun that can rapidly fire .308 bullets. It can shred through hordes of mobs and rapidly drain the health of tankier enemies. The M107 is a semi-automatic .50BMG sniper rifle that can pierce armor and deal heavy damage, and has a fast fire rate for a sniper. It can kill even Hyper Evolved in only a few shots. While you are gathering materials for these guns, avoid alerting the Proto. Calamities are difficult to kill and can 1-shot you even in good armor. The time to destroy is near.

Endgame/Getting to the Proto:

Once you have one or preferably both endgame guns and lots of ammo, the final push begins. By now, you should have collected a good amount of infected body parts, which should be used to craft one of the infected weapons, which are much more powerful than other melee weapons in the pack. Full enchanted Netherite is a requirement, and to have a better chance, a Living Armor set should be crafted and enchanted. Adding an elytron to the chestplate is not needed, but is helpful as it adds extra protection and can be used to avoid fall damage and broken bones, as multiple things during the Proto fight will toss you in the air. Totems, potions, golden apples and ender pearls should also be stocked up on. Once prepared, it is time. Set your spawn near the Proto Hivemind, and make your advance. Try not to attack any infected or alert the hivemind in any other way, as the fight is much easier if you ambush it. Break into the inner flesh sphere to begin the end.

Proto Hivemind:

Unless already alerted, the Proto Hivemind will not be aware of you once you enter the arena. This is an opportunity that should be exploited. Deal as much burst damage as you can, either with guns or explosions. The Proto Hivemind has 2000 HP and is resistant to damage, meaning every hit counts. Once attacked, the Proto will be alerted and begin to fight back. It has a variety of ways it will attack, mostly by summoning enemies due to being an immobile fleshy blob. It still can hit you hard if you get too close however. The most common attack it will use is summoning Verwuhrangs containing Hyper Evolved. You will have a few seconds to kill these before they release their contents, which should be done as every Hyper is dangerous even to an endgame player. Every Hyper is buffed compared to normal, and the Hexenmeister will toss you high in the air with every attack. The Proto Hivemind will also create scents and Mycelium Infection clouds, which are a mostly low-level threat but can become overwhelming. Various organoids can also be summoned around the player. It will summon Usurpers, Delusioners and Vigils at a distance, Braurei at medium range and Umarmers up close, sometimes even surrounding the player with Umarmers. These should be taken out whenever possible, as each one poses a threat. The player should alternate between taking out summons, magdumping the Proto and reloading during down times. To conserve ammo, melee should be used on basic infected and weaker organoids. If the Proto Hivemind receives a signal from a mob being killed, it can summon a womb. Due to the large amounts of infected swarming the arena, this womb should be top priority as it can quickly gain enough biomass to summon a Calamity. Calamities should be killed from range immediately, and pose a massive threat. It is always better to go out of your way to kill a womb than face a Calamity. By the later stages of the fight, the area around the Proto Hivemind will be infested with infected, and these can completely overwhelm the player. Do not focus too much on these, only gunning them down when they surround you to avoid more scents being produced. Focus everything on ending the fight as quickly as possible, and preventing the summoning of stronger mobs. Only leave the fight if completely necessary, because the Proto Hivemind will regenerate and be ready when you come back. Eventually, probably with several deaths, you will defeat the Proto Hivemind.

Postgame:

The main goal of FIS: Genocide is to defeat the Proto Hivemind, however that is not the end. Removing the spore will be almost impossible, and it will always come back. If you wish to continue playing, there are still things to do though. The bosses of Minecraft and Alex's Mobs are still waiting (although they are all extremely easy and underwhelming compared to the Proto Hivemind, and many people will beat them before the Proto.) It is also possible to try and build a permanent base. A heavily fortified base in a cold biome, with all the cave systems underneath managed and a system in place to counter tornadoes will be able to survive the ever-deteriorating world of FIS: Genocide for a long time. Another Proto Hivemind can always spawn too. I am aware the postgame kind of sucks, FIS: Genocide is meant to be a losing battle from the start. More stuff will likely come in later versions of this pack, idk what though. FIS may receive updates as well, in which case this pack's progression could completely change. For now though, this is it. You got your revenge. You killed the Proto Hivemind. But who really won? Your only prize is to watch everything be consumed all the same, all the work you put into defeating the, no, a Proto Hivemind making no difference. You never could have changed the ending, who says this was even your story? Maybe you should join them, be part of something greater. Damn why am I getting so deep its a random modpack in a block game lol. Idk go touch grass now.
