A 1.20.1 sandbox modpack focused on gameplay, exploration, and building. No quest books.
Why play this pack?
I put this pack together because I was tired of opening new modpacks and immediately being handed a massive quest book. A lot of modern packs feel like you're just following a checklist instead of actually playing Minecraft.
Epoch Unbound is built around the idea of a pure sandbox. It gives you some of the best mods available for 1.20.1, makes sure they play nicely together, and then just leaves you alone to play the game. Whether you want to build massive factories, learn magic, or just explore the world, it's completely up to you.
What's inside?
The overworld looks incredible right out of the gate. Terralith and Tectonic work together to generate realistic mountains, deep valleys, and beautiful biomes. If you dig down far enough, you'll eventually stumble into Alex's Caves. This mod adds massive, dangerous underground biomes that you actually have to hunt for, making mining a lot more exciting.
Since vanilla combat is a bit outdated, I included Better Combat to add proper swinging animations and hitboxes. You also get a ton of new weapon types from Simply Swords to try out. To keep gearing up interesting, Apotheosis overhauls the enchanting system and adds a fun loot grind. You'll definitely need that extra power to take on the difficult bosses added by L_Ender's Cataclysm.
For tech and automation, the main focus is Create, along with the Steam 'n' Rails add-on. It's the perfect tech mod for a sandbox pack because you actually build moving machines and train networks instead of just placing magic boxes. Once you get to the late game, Applied Energistics 2 is included so you can build a massive digital storage system for all your items.
Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks is the only magic mod you really need here. It fits perfectly into a sandbox world because you don't have to read a wiki to understand it. You just explore dungeons, find spell scrolls, craft your gear, and start casting.
To make the world feel alive, Alex's Mobs adds a ton of new animals and creatures. Farmer's Delight handles the food and farming side of things, giving you plenty of crops and meals to make. On top of that, Sound Physics Remastered makes caves and large rooms echo realistically, and there are plenty of extra building blocks to help you make the perfect base.
Performance
You don't need OptiFine for this pack to run well. It uses modern performance mods like Embeddium, Entity Culling, and FerriteCore to keep your framerates high and your RAM usage reasonable.
Oculus is already installed too. If you want to play with shaders, you don't need to tweak anything extra, you can just drop them straight into your shaderpacks folder.
System Requirements
Because of the massive world generation and all the mods running, you'll need to allocate the right amount of memory. Six gigabytes of RAM is the absolute minimum you should allocate to get the game running.
Eight gigabytes of RAM is the recommended sweet spot for a smooth experience.
