Engineer's Forest 3

Abandoned
A modpack designed for those, who like to play with technic, magic and decoration

Title image

Imagine, someday you wake up in a dark forest, surrounded by nothing but trees and hills. You start gathering around some materials, constructing your first tools. After some mining, you craft your first automated machines. However, your early enemy is always with you - your stomach. Loot some chests and start baking bread, or maybe even a burger.

At last, the third version of the legendary Engineer's Forest returns. This pack is fixed on immersion, technology and magic. Many days were spent on balancing all these mods, tweaking the config and changing crafting recipes. There are no recipes locked behind others, however some were made harder. Shaders recommended.

Important note! Mekanism is now included in this pack. Therefore you don't need to install it manually. However if you played before version 2.0 and installed mekanism by dropping the file into the mods folder, you either have to remove this file again or reinstall the pack.

To increase the visuals, many textures were redone. While most of them are made by me, some are taken from NaturalRealism. The GUIs are based on Nellik's GUIs. He has done the Minecraft GUIs, the GUIs from the other mods are done by me and are still WIP. I'll soon release my own addon for public use. The recources are located in a low level folder, to be easy replaced with a recourcepack of your choice.

Installation:

  • download and install via the Twitch Launcher
  • check if you have allocated at least 5GB RAM: Tutorial on Reddit
Typical error, if your RAM limit is exceeded:
The game crashed whilst initializing game Error: com.google.common.util.concurrent.ExecutionError: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded
  • drop Optifine, Mekanism and the Shader in its folders (not necessary)
  • start your game and have fun!

Some earlygame tips:

  • Your first enemy is your stomach, so find some food, fast! Bread should be sufficient enough for the beginning, but there's nothing better than a burger. At least toast your bread in a furnace.
  • You need flour, salt and water to bake bread. There are different ways to get it, but a Macerator will double your output!
  • as soon as you get a few Quartz crystals, build a grinder with a crank from Applied Energistics 2. It allows you to double your ores early game
  • Get a shear and start shearing. But try some other animals than sheeps!
  • Don't waste resources! A normal coal in the crafting grid gives you eight TinyCoal, each of which has the correct burn time for one single item
  • A normal coal has a burn time of 10 (instead of 8) in an IndustrialCraft2 Iron Furnace
  • Double your ores with an IndustrialCraft2 Macerator, the Thermal Pulverizer or something comparable. There are plenty of options in this pack.
  • Do not hit cows with your fist. They are evil!

Some general tips:

  • you can jump over fences, mobs can't
  • press L as soon as you reached level 5 and chose a class. From now on, you can not only spend level on tools, you can spend level on yourself!
  • you can move items/fluid/energy with the pipes from Thermal Dynamics
  • you can change your hotbar by pressing Z
  • If you're going on an excursion and want to sleep without resetting your spawn, then build a sleeping bag
  • build a backpack from Wearable Backpacks. If placed in your chest armor slot, it can be accessed by pressing B
  • you can access backpacks of other players by rightcklicking them
  • pressing H while holding Space and flying with an IndustrialCraft2 Jetpack switches the flying mode to hovering mode
  • pressing and holding V while looking at a block opens a small menu. You can select one of the four types and a ping message is send to surrounding players (like in Portal2)
  • by pressing M you open a map, where you are able to create waypoints
  • the Waystones mod is useful for making easy teleportion in one dimension
  • Industrial Foregoing is like the old Minefactory reloaded. Finally!
  • build a Mining Turtle from Computercraft to stripmine with you
  • An Aqueous Accumulator from Thermal Expansion pumps infinite water, if placed between two water source blocks

Dimensions:

  • Overworld (vanilla)
  • Nether (vanilla)
  • End (vanilla)
  • Aether (Aether Legacy)
  • Mining dimension (Aroma1997s Dimensional World)
  • Twilight Forest (Twilight Forest Mod)
