Give Minecraft a "little extra" without completely changing the minecraft gameplay experience. There's additional biomes to explore, but not entire new dimensions. There's new blocks and items for your home, but not pages and pages of items to scroll through. New mobs make exploration more dangerous but also less bland. These mods aren't chosen necessarily to make life easier but to make life more interesting to live.
