Edge of vanilla was designed to enhance the vanilla minecraft experience by adding mods that enhance existing mechanics without adding new ones. How about a map? Don't like that bedrock or Nether fog? How about more options for tools and weapons? Better expandable storage options? This is what Edge of Vanilla is about.

You will still have the challenges of having to adventure out and find resources, only those resources will mean more. Nether quartz can be used to sharpen your weapons and obsidian can be used to make tools stronger. Rotten flesh can be made into Jerky. String can be used in crafting backpacks so you can carry more.

But you still need vanilla mechanics like rail to get around faster and Redstone contraptions to help automate.

Edge of Vanilla is not intended to be "Beat" and it has no end goal other then what comes forth from your imagination.
