Description

Echoes of the Wellspring

A story-driven magic modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge). Play it alone or with friends.

✦ Story-driven quests   ✦ Twelve hand-built cities   ✦ Boss arenas   ✦ Co-op ready

The Story

Magic is dying. The Wellspring that fed every spell has gone quiet, and the Concord rules the cities in its silence. It calls the dying a mercy. Its Wards listen for spellcraft, its Null Pylons smother it, and its illager enforcers walk the streets.

Your grandmother kept a spark hidden all her life. Now it’s yours. She left you two things: her Wellborn Codex and a cracked focus that is still warm to the touch.

Wake the spark. Find out what your family really was. Bring the Wellspring back.

What Awaits You

Twelve eye cities, wardens and arenas, seven Reliquaries, the Arcana, the Wellborn Codex, co-op

  • The Wellborn Codex. An FTB Quests book that leads you from Gran’s farmstead through a prologue and four acts. Every new world starts at her door.
  • Twelve eye cities. Each one is hand-built and guards one of the twelve eyes that open the way to the End. Under every city a warden waits in its own arena, with a briefing screen that tells you how to beat it. Win, and the key to its Sealed Eye Vault is yours. The vaults are the only place in the world the eyes come from.
  • The Concord’s cities. Cast a spell where a Ward can hear it and the City Watch comes for you. Stay away from the Null Pylons.
  • The Ashen Circle. Gran’s old friends still shelter the last spark-bearers. Look for their safehouses, their contacts in the road towns, and the inns and traders along the way.
  • Seven Reliquaries. Each one holds an ancestor’s memory behind a trial of its own. Win the trial, take in the memory, and a school of magic opens to you. Most memories leave a relic behind, too.
  • The Ender Dragon, reworked with True Ending and YUNG’s Better End Island. The story doesn’t end where you think it does.

Made for this pack

  • Its own look: a gilded-grimoire style for the inventory, menus and quest book, plus a custom title screen, panorama and loading screen.
  • Boss screens for every warden.
  • Bosses from L_Ender’s Cataclysm, Mowzie’s Mobs, Iron’s Spells and Arda’s Sculks, placed into the story.

The Magic

Iron’s Spells ’n Spellbooks sits at the heart of the pack, joined by Wind’s Spellbooks, Echo Spellbooks, Curse Spells, Chronomancy, Aether Chronicles, Alshanex’s Familiars, Apprentice’s Codex and Iron’s Spell’s Delight.

Schools open through the story, not all at once. Your ancestors’ memories hold:

FIRE ✦ ICE ✦ LIGHTNING ✦ NATURE ✦ HOLY ✦ ENDER ✦ EVOCATION ✦ ELDRITCH

Other schools come from choices you make along the way.

The Arcana is a skill tree that grows as the story does. Press [ - ] to open it.

Playing Together

  • One world, one story. When a warden falls or a vault opens, it counts for everyone in the world, including friends who were away or who join later.
  • Fight together. Friends in a boss’s antechamber go through the gate with you, and a warden wakes stronger for each extra player.
  • Three ways to play: host with Essential (Invite Friends), use Open to LAN, or run a dedicated server.

Before You Play

  • Memory: allocate 8 GB (6 GB at the very least). In the CurseForge app, open Settings, then Minecraft, then Java Settings.
  • Shaders: optional, through Oculus. Three shader packs are included.
  • Where to start: every new world begins at Gran’s farmstead. Open the Wellborn Codex and follow it from there.
  • Coming later: two more realms are being built for future updates.

Questions

Can I add or remove mods?
You can, but the quests, cities and bosses are built around the mods that are included, so removing one may break part of the story.

The game crashes or freezes while it loads.
Check the memory setting above first. Large modpacks often fail to load with less than 6 GB.

Can I play it with friends?
Yes. Progress through the story is shared, so it plays as one adventure. See Playing Together above.
