Description
Definitely NOT Just Create
A long-term Create, MineColonies, exploration, and RPG experience.
A Goldstein Industries Endeavor
Overview
Definitely NOT Just Create is a progression-focused Minecraft modpack combining Create engineering, MineColonies settlement development, expanded exploration, and RPG character growth.
At its core, Create supplies the machinery, automation, transportation, and infrastructure needed to expand production, while MineColonies provides long-term objectives and a growing demand for resources, construction materials, and organized logistics.
Factories support colonies, and colonies give those factories a lasting purpose.
But the experience extends far beyond those two central mods. Expanded world generation, structures, exploration, enemies, equipment, combat, character progression, building options, ambience, and quality-of-life improvements all contribute to a broader long-term experience. That wider scope is the reason behind the name: this is Definitely NOT Just Create.
The pack is designed for players who want to build more than an isolated base: a persistent world of connected settlements, specialized industries, railway networks, and shared infrastructure that can continue evolving over the long term.
Why Definitely NOT Just Create?
Create provides a powerful collection of engineering and automation systems, but automation is most satisfying when it has a purpose.
MineColonies creates that purpose through expanding settlements, workers, construction projects, production chains, and continuous material requirements. As those requirements grow, Create provides the tools to automate construction materials, establish dedicated farms and factories, organize storage, and transport resources between settlements and industrial sites.
This creates a continuing progression loop:
- Expand a colony.
- Identify its new resource and logistical demands.
- Engineer systems capable of meeting those demands.
- Connect those systems through transportation infrastructure.
- Explore outward and establish the next project.
MineColonies gives Create automation meaningful long-term objectives, while Create makes it possible to support colonies at a scale that would otherwise require extensive manual work.
This relationship forms the pack’s foundation, but it does not define its limits. Exploration, RPG progression, combat, building, ambience, and multiplayer cooperation expand the experience well beyond engineering alone.
Built for a Long-Term World
Definitely NOT Just Create grew out of months of iteration and testing in an evolving survival world. Its mod selection, configurations, performance improvements, and original features reflect the practical needs encountered while developing large colonies and increasingly complex Create infrastructure.
The goal is to provide a stable and performant foundation for long-term play. Players can establish multiple colonies, construct factories near the resources or settlements they support, and connect distant farms, mines, warehouses, industries, and population centres through Create train networks.
Rather than concentrating every system inside one base, the pack encourages players to spread their operations across the world:
- Establish multiple colonies with different roles and identities.
- Construct factories near the resources or settlements they support.
- Develop specialized farms, mines, warehouses, and production facilities.
- Connect distant colonies and industries through Create railways.
- Transport resources across a growing logistical network.
- Turn exploration sites into permanent outposts and settlements.
- Continue developing projects that remain useful over the life of the world.
Custom Mod Spotlight: Create: MineColonies Smart Clipboard
Create: MineColonies Smart Clipboard is a companion mod designed to smooth out the Create–MineColonies ecosystem through better colony information, streamlined building workflows, and targeted compatibility and performance improvements.
Its central feature is the Smart Colony Clipboard, crafted by combining the standard MineColonies Clipboard with familiar Create components. Once linked to a colony, it expands the standard clipboard with:
- Detailed request information
- Search and filtering
- Request dependency trees
- Additional production context
- Resource Scroll storage
- Colony Map storage
Its Smart Info Tooltip shows whether a requested item can already be produced by the colony, which compatible MineColonies Hut can craft or learn its recipe, and other available recipe and production information.
The mod also allows supported Architect’s Cutter recipes to be taught by Shift + Right Clicking the appropriate MineColonies Hut block.
Targeted optimizations improve interactions between Create systems and MineColonies-managed inventories, including support for Create Stockpile Switches connected to MineColonies Warehouses. Together, these features make larger automation-driven colonies less of a burden performance-wise and more practical to manage.
Custom Mod Spotlight: Goldstein Wrench
Goldstein Wrench is the Create Wrench engineered for self-defence.
It preserves Create’s original wrench functionality while reinforcing it for combat and gravity-assisted impact maintenance. It can still:
- Rotate machinery
- Dismantle belts
- Adjust girders
- Redirect Factory Gauges
- Recover mounted contraptions
- Relocate trains
Nothing from the familiar Create Wrench was traded away for combat. The same tool functions as a proper melee weapon, does not lose durability through combat or supported Create interactions, and accepts applicable combat and mace enchantments through the Enchanting Table, Enchanted Books, and the Anvil.
Gravity Assisted Bonk (G.A.B.)
The Goldstein Wrench puts gravity to work through Gravity Assisted Bonk, using Minecraft Mace mechanics with Better Combat animations.
Fall toward a target and strike before landing. Greater falling distance produces greater damage.
No mode switching is required: one moment the wrench adjusts a gearbox; the next, it adjusts whatever wandered into the construction site.
GW Classified
GW Classified contains the recorded results of Goldstein Wrench testing, documenting its properties, applications, and known limitations.
The documents can be crafted or issued automatically after completing Create’s Wrench and Engineer’s Goggles advancement. Fragments of the original Goldstein Brothers Theme are encrypted within the archive, alongside a preserved schematic indicating that a playable rendition can be produced through Create machinery.
No further information has been disclosed.
Developed Through Long-Term Play
Both custom mods were created by Gabripouele, the developer who assembled Definitely NOT Just Create. They emerged from months of iteration and practical testing in the same evolving survival world that shaped the modpack.
The Smart Colony Clipboard addresses the information, production-planning, building, compatibility, and performance challenges encountered while supporting large MineColonies settlements with Create.
The Goldstein Wrench expands a tool already central to Create gameplay so it remains useful during engineering, exploration, and combat.
Together, they reinforce the pack’s goal of connecting its major systems into one coherent long-term experience.
Exploration and World Expansion
Definitely NOT Just Create offers considerably more than its central Create and MineColonies progression. Expanded world generation, structures, environments, dungeons, and points of interest provide reasons to travel beyond established territory.
Exploration offers new resources, equipment, challenges, and potential locations for colonies or industrial projects. A distant expedition can become a permanent part of the world:
- Discover a promising region.
- Establish an outpost or new colony.
- Develop local production around nearby resources.
- Build farms, mines, warehouses, or specialized factories.
- Connect the region to existing settlements by rail.
- Incorporate it into the wider logistical network.
Exploration is therefore more than a temporary diversion. New discoveries can influence where settlements are founded, where infrastructure is built, and how the connected world develops.
RPG Progression and Combat
RPG-oriented skills, equipment, accessories, combat mechanics, and character-development systems provide progression beyond settlement management and engineering.
These systems make exploration and combat meaningful parts of the larger experience while allowing players to develop different capabilities and specializations. Character growth helps players travel farther, confront greater challenges, and secure the resources needed for increasingly ambitious projects.
In multiplayer, explorers, builders, engineers, fighters, and colony managers can pursue different roles while contributing to the same shared progression.
The pack’s RPG and exploration systems are substantial parts of the experience rather than minor additions. Create remains central, but it exists within a much broader progression framework.
Building and Creativity
Additional building and decoration options allow functional infrastructure to become an integrated part of the world.
Create machinery can become part of factories, workshops, railway stations, and public infrastructure. MineColonies provides growing settlements with recognizable architecture and a continued sense of development. Remote farms, mines, warehouses, and industrial sites can each develop their own visual identity while remaining connected to the larger network.
The objective is not simply to automate more resources. It is to create a world whose history and continued growth are visible through its settlements, industries, transportation routes, and shared infrastructure.
Single-Player and Multiplayer
Definitely NOT Just Create can be played as a complete single-player experience. One player can establish colonies, develop factories, explore the world, and gradually construct a connected network at their own pace.
Multiplayer gives that structure additional depth. Players can:
- Establish and manage separate colonies.
- Specialize in different industries or production chains.
- Explore and develop independent regions.
- Construct shared railways and transportation infrastructure.
- Connect distant settlements through supply networks.
- Collaborate on regional and world-scale projects.
The pack is particularly suited to persistent multiplayer worlds where projects remain useful and continue developing over time.
Technical Information
Definitely NOT Just Create is built and tested around the following baseline:
- Minecraft: 1.21.1
- Mod loader: NeoForge 21.1.235
- Create: 6.0.10
- Java: Java 21
- Supported environments: Single-player, multiplayer, and dedicated servers
- Installation: Required on both the client and server
The pack includes carefully selected performance and compatibility improvements intended to support large colonies, extensive Create infrastructure, expanded world generation, and long-running multiplayer worlds.
These optimizations reduce avoidable overhead, but performance will still depend on hardware, render settings, simulation distance, active colonies, chunk loading, and the scale of machinery operating at the same time.
Inspiration and Thanks
Definitely NOT Just Create would not have been realized without the Just Create SMP team.
The worlds and projects created by Mr Beardstone, FoxyNoTail, ChosenArchitect, and the other members of the team sparked the original idea for this modpack and demonstrated how compelling a world centred on Create engineering and collaborative building could become.
Their work inspired the foundation. From there, Definitely NOT Just Create developed its own identity around MineColonies, connected settlements, distributed factories, railway logistics, exploration, RPG progression, and the demands of a persistent long-term world.
Additional thanks go to Mathaloche, my brother, who—probably without knowing it—kept me motivated throughout the mod-development and modpack-building process.
Thanks also go to the authors, artists, contributors, and communities behind every mod included in the pack. Their work made this experience possible.
