What's new

Data Center in the Sky 1.2.0

The Data Center mod moves from 1.5.0 to 1.6.3. The mod list is otherwise unchanged. An existing world updates in place - nothing has to be rebuilt.

Play it on a server with your friends

There is an official server now: datacenter.modded.fun - it is already in your Multiplayer list as Data Center in the Sky. (Updating the pack replaces the server list, so re-add any servers of your own afterwards.)

Every player - or every FTB Teams party - can now have an island of their own. The spawn island is the shared hub everybody arrives on; /island create builds your own plot far out in the void and makes it your respawn point. /island home, /island visit <player> and /island spawn get you around.

On a dedicated server every island comes with a zone of about 1,000 blocks, and that zone is the only place in the overworld you can build: visitors can look, not touch, and nobody can dig into the spawn. Joining a party that already has an island asks first, because it deletes your own. In singleplayer and LAN none of that applies - the spawn island is simply your home, as before.

Running a server: set level-type=datacenter\:data_center_sky in server.properties before the world is first created, or the server makes a normal world with no islands at all. Put FTB Teams on the server if parties should share an island.

What else changed in the mod since 1.5.0

  • Software. Operating systems and mining clients, each with real trade-offs: developer fees, licences that lapse, crashes, and a Software Lab that ports new releases. Nothing in the list is a straight upgrade.
  • Politics and green power. A renewable production subsidy per kWh, a green power premium, and a Green Meter that measures what share of your site really runs on your own generation.
  • Mining hardware grew up. Seven more dedicated mining boards, riser kits for their PCIe x1 slots, ten mining accelerators, server power supplies on breakout boards, an ASIC Shelf and Blanking Panels. A Server can now hold twenty graphics cards.
  • The technician is complete - all thirteen courses work, and a Parts Cabinet lets him replace dead parts on his own.
  • Evaporative cooling, and the water it drinks. A daily load curve on both sides of the ledger.
  • The starting island comes with a grown oak and no chest, and the calendar now runs smoothly instead of jumping at midnight.
  • Fixed: mining was paid on the wrong clock, which broke the late game; placing some ASIC miners crashed the game; breaking a Grid Connection destroyed it; and a list of smaller things.

The full list is in the mod's changelog on its CurseForge page.
