Cogs to Cosmos is a long, deliberate tech climb. You start with stone tools and bread, build your first Create machines, and work your way up through the mod tiers until you can craft ProjectE.
Beta 0.1.3. This is an early release. Recipes, quests and balance have not been played through end to end, so expect rough edges and please report them.
How the progression works
Create comes first, then Immersive Engineering, Industrial Foregoing and Actually Additions, PneumaticCraft, RFTools Builder, Powah, Mekanism, Modern Industrialization and Extreme Reactors, Ars Nouveau, Applied Energistics 2, Refined Storage, Mystical Agriculture, Draconic Evolution, Extended Crafting, and finally ProjectE.
- Vanilla recipes are untouched. Only modded recipes are made harder, and they are made to make sense: parts are built from related components, not filler.
- Belt-line crafting. Where a recipe has a Create sequenced-assembly route, that route is used, so the hard parts become easy to automate later.
- Same recipes for everyone. There is one fixed recipe set. Every player on a server sees the same recipes.
- Boss gates. A few one-off capstone machines, such as the Fusion Reactor Controller and the Angel Ring, also need a drop from a modded boss (Twilight Forest, Cataclysm, Iron's Spellbooks).
- Tiered guns. TaCZ gun smith tables, guns, ammo and attachments scale by tier. Ammo needs brass.
- Powerful mods are tuned. Dyson Cube Project, Iron Jetpacks, RFTools Builder, the Angel Ring and the Botany Pots Tiers pots (Elite, Ultra and Mega now need Mystical Agriculture ingots; the base Botany Pot is unchanged) sit at the right stage of the pack instead of being cheap shortcuts.
- World loot. Structures give tier-appropriate raw materials. Already-built hardened parts are rare, and no guns appear in loot.
- Rarer structures. Mod structures spawn much less often than the mods' defaults, so finding one feels like an event.
- Questbook. Over 1,100 quests across 25 chapters guide you, including optional ones: one for every obtainable Mystical Agriculture seed, and a bonus quest for each hardened-recipe item that explains what changed. Nothing is locked behind quests.
- Starter kit. Stone tools, leather armor and 16 bread.
- Quality of life.
/homehas no cooldown, chunks you force-load with FTB Chunks stay loaded while you are offline, and Compact Machines are craftable out of the box.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.256, Java 21.
- About 10 GB of RAM or more is recommended for the client. The pack registers about 46,000 items, so the first load and JEI take a while.
Servers
A server pack is attached to each release as an additional file. Unzip it into an empty folder and run start.bat (Windows) or bash start.sh (Linux): the scripts install Java 21 and NeoForge 21.1.256 on the first run. Give the server 10 GB of RAM or more, and read SERVER_README.txt in the zip for details.
Notes
- Use JEI (R on an item for its recipe, U for its uses) for every advanced item.
- Six of the included mods do not allow third-party launchers to download them automatically. The CurseForge app installs them normally.
- Start a new world for this version. Worlds from 0.1.0 keep their old structures, and Chance Cubes blocks will show as missing.
