Notes Below
To be honest I was quite on the fence on adding Sophisticated Storage
The reason this pack doesn't have a mod like RS or AE is because I completely despise all in one storage solutions
One of the things I really liked about older modpacks, before the days of RS or AE, was how wanting to progress in mods required expanding constantly.
Having giant complex sets of diamond pipes to slowly sort out each mod, or using RedPower sorters to fluff things around.
If you were unfortunate enough to never experience these days, the Yogs Jaffa Factory (Episode 42 and 43) has a good example.
It's hideous, and, I love that type of gameplay. Hideous solutions for horrific problems.
Probably why I and other people like create so much, Create is actually a *very* simple mod just presented in a *very* strange way for minecraft.
Its "Power transportation" looks active and all of its "Function type" blocks are very animated and active. It feels like you're "seeing stuff just work"
As of 1.0.14, there's really two ways of automated storage outside of *vanilla* methods.
That is Essnetials, and Create.
er, Crossroads might have a way but I still haven't looked *too* much into the mod
Both require you to slowly funnel items through item pipes or conveyors through sorting blocks to basically pull apart the item inflow piece by piece into different chests.
Compare this with RS/AE where everything goes in one little magic GUI
Sophisticated Storage sits in the center of these two absolutes, you can hook a storage manager up to as manu chests as you want and individually set up filters for each
There's no magic place to pull out (Unless you pull everything, have soemthing like a exeternal bus from RS, or theres something im missing) but there is a magic place to put in
Filters aren't cheap but they aren't exactly creative to setup, and honestly don't look cool to me
But the unfortunate truth is, Create and Essentials don't really have ways to setup complciated "mass catch" as far as I can tell
Setting up a create filtering system would require a brass funnel for each item, and setting up an essentials one would be a mess of redstone pulsers, item splitters, and slotted chests
Because the item splitters aren't smart enough to go "Cant fit here, go to other side" when one side is not accepting that item type
Either way, neither of these would be "fun-pealing" to the eye. It'd just be weird, a bit disgusting, and probably laggy.
I might actually look into making an Addon for create to support the Item Filters mod which FTBQuests uses, but for now, it's just too simplistic for a modpack this size, which is another thing different from BC pipes
that the pack is significantly larger than say tekkit, junk item wise.
At the very least Sophisticated Storage can be a functional middleground, even if it wont look cool going in, the output appearance will be the same disgusting vanilla+ appearance
that I loved coming out of BC/RP
