\The story of "Lankeren" is an ancient Chinese tale. A young woodman encountered two immortals playing chess on the mountain when he was chopping firewood. After watching one game of chess, he astonishingly found that the handle of his axe has rotted, and when he went down the mountain, he realised that hundreds of years had passed——The world has changed.
AnimateCraft: Lankeren grasps the essence of the tale. The story takes place in a parallel existence of vanilla Minecraft. The player is a normal person in the ancient time, and was chopping wood in the forest until an allay showed up. When the player waked up, a long age has passed, and the Overworld has undergone a dramatic change. It has become a vast and expansive realm, with towering trees blocking out the sun, rolling plains, and canyons splitting the solid ground. Various mysterious creatures have returned to the surface, including giants, Zombie Knights, and Skeleton Horseback Archers...
As an ancient species, the allays were appointed by the Creators as guardians of the main world, and the recent activities of the illagers have made them uneasy. Pillagers have emerged from woodland mansions, expanding thoughout the world and re-activated the portals to another world - the Nether. The ancient forces that once tainted the Overworld have now resurfaced, only the player can stop them, save the Overworld, and eventually learn the Whole Story.
