A Broken World 1.0.0 – Major Overhaul Release
Core Update
-
Updated base game from Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge 47.4.0) to Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge 21.1.215).
-
Rebuilt the entire modpack around the 1.21.1 / NeoForge ecosystem.
-
Set recommended RAM to ~6 GB (6080 MB).
-
Cleaned up and simplified metadata and overrides to make installs cleaner and lighter.
Horror & Atmosphere
-
Introduced a stronger psychological-horror focus with new core horror mods:
• Blood N' Particles Mod
• Eyes in the Darkness
• The Obsessed – Advanced Psychological Horror, Mysterious Arachnid Stalker
• Some Spooky Cave Additions [SSCA] [Horror, ambient] -
Added Sound Physics Remastered and custom configs to give caves and interiors more realistic, unsettling acoustics.
-
Added Dynamic Light for more diegetic lighting and tension (torches and held light sources matter more).
-
Tuned new configs for ambient and cave-horror mods to keep the world oppressive without constant jumpscare spam.
Worldgen, Progression & Datapacks
-
Switched to Tectonic world generation for a more dramatic, fractured overworld that fits the “broken world” theme.
-
Added YUNG’s API (NeoForge) for expanded and more interesting structure support.
-
Added structure/clarity tools:
• WITS (What Is This Structure?) – helps players understand strange structures they encounter. -
Added progression / world behavior datapacks:
• Old Bed Crafting Recipe – restores a more classic bed recipe feel.
• Remove Deep Dark Biome and Pillager Structures – reshapes the world away from certain late-game vanilla structures to keep focus on isolation, exploration, and horror.
Visual Identity & Style
-
Re-defined the visual identity of the pack for 1.21.1:
• Added Golden Days Alpha as the core nostalgia/retro-inspired resource pack.
• Added 👻 Hysteria Shaders and Nostalgia Shader as CurseForge-downloadable shader options.
• Bundled Genesis v6.0 shaderpack in overrides for another cinematic option. -
Replaced the old shader stack (Complementary Reimagined/Unbound + Euphoria patches) and multiple PBR / animation packs for a more cohesive, stylized horror look.
-
Removed many older visual packs that were either heavy, redundant, or clashing with the new aesthetic, such as:
• Faithful PBR 2048x
• Fresh Animations & Fresh Animations: Extensions
• Tissou’s Zombie Pack
• Various rain / fog / shader variants that overlapped the new visual direction.
Gameplay, QoL & UI
-
Added Better Advancements for clearer progression tracking and better guidance through the pack’s content.
-
Added Space’s Day Counter to make time passage (and long-term survival) more tangible.
-
Added Where Did I Die? to help recover bodies/items in an otherwise punishing world.
-
Added Distraction Free Recipes to clean up recipe viewing (EMI/REI/JEI), reducing visual noise.
-
Added Hold My Items – Reforged to make death/item handling more readable and less janky.
-
Added Old Combat Mod to tweak combat feel toward a more deliberate, old-school style.
-
Added WITS (What Is This Structure?) to explain strange structures without breaking immersion.
Performance, Tech & Backend
-
Rebuilt the performance layer for 1.21.1 / NeoForge:
• Added Sodium and Lithium (Fabric/NeoForge) for better FPS and simulation performance.
• Added Cull Leaves for additional visual optimization.
• Added FastWorkbench for crafting performance improvements.
• Added Chunky (Forge/NeoForge) for pregenerating terrain and stabilizing servers/worlds.
Introduced new backend/libs to support the updated ecosystem:
• Collective
• Fzzy Config
• Kotlin for Forge
• TxniLib
• CreativeCore and Configured for better config and client behavior control.
-
Added Paxi (NeoForge) and Resource Pack Overrides with pre-made configs to enforce datapack/resourcepack load order and ensure the intended visual stack (e.g., Golden Days) is always on top.
-
Cleaned out older and/or redundant performance mods from the 1.20.1 Forge era such as Starlight (Forge), BadOptimizations, Better chunk loading, and others that overlapped the new Sodium/Lithium-based stack.
Removed / Retired Content (Selected)
-
Removed a large number of Forge-era mods, libraries, and cosmetic packs that no longer fit 1.21.1, the new horror direction, or the performance target, including (highlights):
• Alex’s Mobs and several associated libraries (Architectury, Atlas Lib, Balm, etc.).
• Zombie Awareness and other older mob/AI horror tweaks in favor of the new psychological horror mods.
• From The Fog, Lethal Darkness, True Darkness, Fog Looks Good Now, Cursed Fog, Spooklementary, Willows Horror Cave Sounds – consolidated and replaced with a more controlled darkness/atmosphere stack.
• A wide range of decorative / utility mods (Quark, MrCrayfish’s Furniture Refurbished, Security Craft, etc.) to sharpen the experience around survival, atmosphere, and narrative instead of sandbox decoration.
• Old shader and visual stacks (Complementary Reimagined/Unbound, LITE shaders, PBR packs, multiple rain/animation packs) to reduce bloat and visual conflict.
Compatibility & Save Notes
-
This update is a full generation jump (1.20.1 Forge → 1.21.1 NeoForge) with a heavily changed modlist. Existing worlds from “A Broken World [Psychological Horror]” are not expected to be stable or fully compatible.
-
A fresh world is strongly recommended for A Broken World 1.0.0 to experience the intended worldgen, horror systems, and balance.
