What's new

Added

  • Vehicles: Added physics-based cars and self-balancing motorcycles with suspension, working gears, brakes, handbrakes, and customizable wheel settings. Vehicles support automatic and manual shifting.

  • Vehicle controls: Added driving controls, gear-shift keybinds, synchronized wheel visuals, and a HUD showing speed, gear, and RPM.

  • Joints: Physics objects can now be connected using welds, ball joints, hinges, ropes, and springs. Connected objects won't collide with each other.

  • Link tool: Use /zarith link <mode> to connect two physics objects. Sneak-click to pin an object in place, or use unlink mode to remove its connections.

  • New commands: Added /zarith car, /zarith motorcycle, /zarith rope, /zarith cloth, and /zarith assemble for spawning and testing physics contraptions.

  • Structural collapse: Structures can now collapse when their supports break or can't handle the weight. Unsupported blocks fall, and overloaded connections can break.

  • Block damage: Fast impacts can break blocks, while explosions gradually wear blocks down before breaking them.

  • Debris: Broken blocks can leave behind smaller physics fragments that eventually crumble away.

  • Improved shading: Physics objects can now cast shading onto the world beneath them.

Changed / Fixed

  • Smoother terrain physics: Terrain collisions are now combined into larger sections, reducing the number of physics bodies and preventing objects from catching on seams between blocks.

  • Faster terrain processing: Terrain checks are spread across ticks to help manage performance.

  • Faster contraption rendering: Large physics contraptions now render much more efficiently.

  • Improved storage: Reworked how block data is stored internally to improve efficiency.

  • Better friction: Improved friction behavior for physics contraptions.

  • Faster terrain lookups: Cached terrain data to avoid repeating the same lookups.

  • Improved interactions: Right-clicking a physics contraption now uses the exact position you clicked.

Removed

  • Old block data API: Removed the previous per-cell object-based API. Mods using the old API will need to update to the new system.

  • Individual terrain collision bodies: Replaced with merged terrain sections for better performance.

Note for mod developers: This update includes breaking API changes. Mods using Zarith's older block storage or terrain collision APIs may need updates to remain compatible.
