What's new

1.8.0 — The Starving Skeleton

New boss: Gashadokuro, the Starving Skeleton (500 HP)

  • A skeleton about 7 blocks tall in broken samurai armour, with turquoise soul fire and a rusted nodachi about 5 blocks long. 503-cube model with 18 animations.
  • It is slow and turns slowly, so get behind it. Its footsteps shake the camera.
  • Weak point, the head: when it drops its guard after a heavy attack, hitting the head deals extra damage and stuns it.
  • Three phases (100–66 %, 66–33 % and below 33 %), each adding new attacks:
    • Phase 1:
      • Horizontal Slash at ground level (jump over it);
      • Stomp;
      • Vertical Slash along a line;
      • Onibi, soul fireballs that land where you are going to be.
    • Phase 2:
      • Onibi Blade, a crescent that deals more damage the farther it travels;
      • Spin Slash (360°);
      • Bone Hunger, which summons skeletons;
      • onibi now burst in two waves.
    • Phase 3:
      • Soul Geysers, which launch you into the air;
      • Grab: it lifts you, shakes you and throws you. Hit it to make it let go.
      • The Blade fires three crescents in a fan, onibi burst in three waves, and the Slash and Stomp leave soul fire on the ground.
  • Death: it crumbles, and bone chunks fall onto circles marked around it.

Forgotten Battlefield

  • New structure in Plains, Savannas and Badlands: a sunken field with broken banners, embedded katanas, bone piles, two half-buried chests and a skull altar.
  • The altar only wakes at night, and only after an offering. Right-click it with a Cursed Bone.
    • Cursed Bones come from the battlefield chests and, rarely, from skeletons and strays.
  • To find it: /locate structure miniboses_orientales:altar_gashadokuro.
  • Defeating it spawns a reward chest with the book Field Notes of a Ronin.

Loot

  • Nodachi of the Gashadokuro: a slow, fireproof greatsword with 11 damage and a 3D model. Right click: a short slash that hurls an onibi crescent. Repaired with Onibi Bone.
  • Skull of the Gashadokuro: can be placed as a block (it gives light) or worn on the head. Worn, it grants night vision, and skeletons won't attack you unless provoked.
  • Onibi Bone: repairs the Nodachi and crafts into 2 Yokai Essence.
  • Cursed Bone: the altar offering.

Advancements: Ashes to Bones, Skull Breaker (stun it 3 times in one fight) and Slipped Through the Fingers (escape its grab). There are now 24 in total.

Other changes

  • The Kitsune altar now breaks properly with a pickaxe.
  • Config: new gashadokuro section (attacks per phase and loot) and altars.gashadokuro. Your existing values are kept.

1.7.0 — The Nine-Tailed Kitsune

New boss: Tamamo, the Nine-Tailed Kitsune (260 HP)

  • Look: a white-haired woman with fox ears and red eyes, in a black and crimson kimono, with nine fluffy tails and a naginata about 4.4 blocks long.
  • Transformation: at half health she becomes a giant nine-tailed fox.
  • Animation: 33 eased animations. Tails, hair, sleeves and ears have automatic secondary motion.
  • Phase 1, the woman:
    • naginata combo;
    • Fox Step: she reappears behind you;
    • Kitsune-bi: foxfire you can hit back at her;
    • Bunshin: clones that cast no shadow;
    • Possession Seal: inverts your controls;
    • Red Moon Dance;
    • Charming Gaze: look away;
    • Foxfire Ring: escape through the gap.
  • Transformation (50 %): a shockwave you must jump over.
  • Phase 2, the beast: her tails ignite as she loses health, and each lit tail strengthens her attacks.
    • Charge: if she hits a wall, she is stunned;
    • Claw and Bite;
    • Tail Storm;
    • Foxfire Rain;
    • Devastating Leap;
    • Fox Breath;
    • Tail Spears;
    • Void Magatama;
    • Thousand Illusions: only one of the seven foxes is real.

Inari Shrine

  • New structure in Dark Forests: a path of ten red torii gates, guardian fox statues and a honden.
  • The altar only wakes at night.
  • She also spawns naturally in Dark Forests, at night only.
  • To find it: /locate structure miniboses_orientales:altar_kitsune.

Loot

  • Kitsune Mask (helmet): when you take a hit of 6 or more, it leaves a foxfire illusion where you stood, makes you invisible for 3 s, and monsters chase the illusion.
  • Kitsune Tail: repairs the mask and crafts into 2 Yokai Essence.

Advancements: Nine Tails and Not Fooled.

Other changes

  • Custom sounds and foxfire particle.
  • New status effect: Kitsune Possession.
  • The Kitsune never teleports out of your sight or into the void.
  • Config: new kitsune section. Your existing values are kept.

Updating from 1.6.0

  • Existing worlds load fine. The config only gains the new sections, and your values are kept.
  • The Inari Shrine and the Forgotten Battlefield only generate in new chunks. Explore areas you haven't visited yet.
