Yokai's Hell
Five Japanese yokai bosses and a 32-block storm dragon, built for real boss fights.
Yokai's Hell brings the monsters of Japanese folklore into Minecraft. Each boss has a hand-made model and animations, telegraphed attacks, combos and multiple phases. You hunt them across the Overworld, take their relics and use them to awaken the final boss: Ryū of the Storms.
⚔️ The Bosses
👹 The Calamity Oni — deep caves, below Y 0
A 4.5-block demon in lacquered armor, with a drum ring like Raijin's on its back and a spiked kanabō club.
- Club Combo: a smash, then a backhand that knocks you sideways, then an overhead finisher that sends out a shockwave.
- Crushing Leap: if you run, it jumps onto the spot where you were standing.
- Charge: it lines you up and charges. If it hits a wall, it is stunned.
- Thunder Drums (phase 2): every drum beat calls lightning down on you.
- Rock Skin: it shrugs off swords, but a pickaxe breaks the stone plates.
🗡️ The Desecrated Ronin — cherry groves
A cursed samurai with a 3.4-block nodachi.
- Parry and riposte: strike it while it is on guard and it appears behind you.
- Nodachi Combo: a Rising Cut that launches you, then a Crescent Moon Slash that cuts the ground.
- Dance of a Thousand Blades (phase 2): it teleports around you in a star pattern and cuts five times.
- Cursed Banner: heals it while it stands, so break it fast.
- Duel Circle: a ring of fire petals you can't leave without being cut.
❄️ The Lady of Ice – Yuki-onna — snowy peaks and frozen biomes
A ghost in a white kimono with a halo of floating ice blades.
- Frost Claw into Glacial Nova: she blinks behind you, tears at you, then the ice around her explodes.
- Halo Barrage: she fires her halo blades in a fan.
- Glacier Wall: a row of ice spikes erupts across the ground.
- Whiteout (phase 2): icicles rain down around you.
- She also uses mirages, freezing blizzards and an ice prison that traps you.
🪶 The Tengu of the Peaks — taigas and bamboo jungles
A winged mountain spirit with a giant feather fan and a ringed shakujō staff.
- Staff Sweep into Staff Slam: a spinning strike, then a dive onto a marked circle.
- Gale Wall: a wall of wind that pushes you off cliffs.
- Kamikakushi: it grabs you and carries you into the sky. Hit it twice to break free.
- Descent of the Kami (phase 2): it climbs into the sky and slams down on the spot under you.
- Karasu-tengu: it summons crow warriors.
🐢 The Kappa of the Depths — swamps and mangroves
A hunched river demon that drags a rusted ship anchor.
- Anchor Combo: a sweeping swing, then a sunken slam that sends out a shockwave.
- Thrown Anchor: it hooks you on a chain and reels you in.
- Shell Whirlwind (phase 2): it spins inside its shell, bouncing off walls.
- Foul Drag pulls you into water, and the Sumo Challenge pushes you out of a ring.
- Weak spot: hit the water dish on its head to stun it.
🐉 Final Boss: Ryū of the Storms
A 32-block eastern dragon with a body you can hit along its whole length, deer antlers and a glowing dragon pearl in its claw. It sleeps in the Ancestral Temple, a torii shrine high on the Jagged Peaks.
To wake it, bring the Ronin's Katana, the Kanabō Fragment and the Blizzard Crystal to the temple.
Three phases. A permanent lightning storm. No mercy.
- Lord of the Skies: a Lightning Breath beam that sets the ground on blue fire, wind orbs, and Thunder Pillars that predict where you're running.
- Earthly Fury: a Tail Sweep, then a Bite and Lunge into a Seismic Crash that drives its head into the ground. It also summons minor yokai.
- The Ancestral Storm: a Shadow Dance with illusion dragons, a Death Dive meteor strike, and the Eye of the Storm, a barrage of lightning that ends in one massive strike.
Defeat it for the legendary Ryū's Pearl: immunity to lightning, plus a Dragon Ascent that launches you skyward with a shockwave.
🎯 Combat Built to Be Learned
- Ground warnings: red circles and lines fill up just before the hit. Read them, move, survive.
- Shockwaves: ground slams send out rings of dust. Jump over them.
- Combos: bosses chain attacks together, and more often in phase 2.
- Punish windows: after their biggest attacks, bosses get stuck, stunned or exhausted, and take 30% more damage.
- Damage cap and armor: you can't skip a fight with a single one-shot weapon.
- Screen shake on heavy impacts. Each player can adjust it in the client config.
- Multiplayer scaling: bosses gain health and damage for every extra player nearby.
