What's new

Xiaoxiang Realm Expansion — 1.1.1

Made for Xiaoxiang Cultivation World 0.2.106 or later (its Modrinth line). Every release names the cultivation mod it was made for, here and on the Mods page, so the pairing is never in doubt.

Everything since 1.1.0 of 12 October is in here: Realm Expansion carried onto the cultivation mod's 0.2.106, ten layers in every one of its immortal realms, seven new worlds and the first ring of the Myriad Realms made whole. The six sections at the top always say where things stand: what is new, what changed, what was fixed, what is in but not finished, what you may run into, and what was caught before you could. Below them, a line apiece for what 1.1.0 and 1.0.3 brought; their full notes stay with those releases.

🆕 New

🌋 The first ring made whole: the Frost, Ember and Jade Planes

The ring of planes around the Verdant Plane is complete. The Frost, Ember and Jade Planes, whose ground the Infernal and Ender Planes held until now, each rise with five lands of their own - their own ground, plants, waters, skies, fog, motes, creatures and songs.

Under the Frost Plane's aurora lie the Glacier Fields of packed and blue ice, the Snowbound Pinewoods, the Frostmirror Lakes of still High spiritual water cradled in blue ice, the Rime Spires, and the Hot Spring Vales, where Mid spiritual water steams in basins of Spirit Obsidian. Xuan iron, cold iron and Mid spirit stones wait in its Frost Stone, and still spiritual water falls from the edges of its islands.

Beside the Infernal Plane - and nothing like it - the Ember Plane burns beneath a dusk-red sky that thickens toward the horizon. Embers drift on the air and glowing cinders fall in place of rain, now and then a drop of fire among them, over the Ashen Fields, the Magma Rivers that striders wade, the Flamewood Forests of the fire element's own trees, the black-capped Obsidian Heights veined with Spirit Obsidian, and the Smouldering Calderas. Refined gold, cinnabar and red copper lie in its Ember Rock.

The Jade Plane rests under a pale green sky that glows softly along the horizon, glints of jade light hanging in its air: the Jadecliff Terraces, the Jadeleaf Woods of the wood element's own trees, the Jadewater Meres, the Crystal Hollows whose geodes break open to the sky, and the misted Jademist Peaks. High spirit stones and refined iron run through its Giant Jade.

Each plane names itself as you cross into it and on the Star Chart, keeps pages of its own in the Records of the Myriad Realms, and raises the eastern towns and hamlets that suit it. A new world still begins on the Verdant Plane.

In a world you already have, ground you have explored stays exactly as it was. Where nobody has been yet, the Myriad Realms' lands are laid out a little differently than before, so a seam between two lands may show at the edge of explored ground.

🌍 Choose the world you begin in

The origin page has a new button beside the Realm Gate: Start. It opens a list of the worlds a new character may begin in. The Overworld heads it and is where everyone begins who picks nothing, as always. Beside it stand the Myriad Realms - you come down on the Verdant Plane's middle islands at the realm's heart, over the Forsaken Depths and under the high islands - and the worlds of the Xiao System a newcomer can live on: Ember, Frostvein, the Nine Peaks, Sunscar, Pearlsea, Wildheart, Sporemoor and Petal Vale. The list shows seven at a time, with arrows above and below to bring the rest into view; point at a world to read what beginning there means.

Only worlds that ask nothing of a new character are on the list: never a world without air (the Spirit Moon, the Asteroid Belt, the Comet, Starglass, Ashfall), never the Jade Giant, whose islands hang over the open void of space, and never a world of the immortals. Once your character has begun the choice is settled, as the Realm Gate is. When your origin is decided you are carried there once, with everything you hold, and set down at the world's spawn area on solid, dry ground with room to stand - never in a wall, over the void or beside lava. If no such ground lies near, a small floor of Spirit Obsidian is laid for you. You wake there after a death until a bed says otherwise. An origin with a homeland of its own still begins in that homeland. A server can turn the choice off, and then everyone begins in the Overworld as before.

✨ Seven new worlds

Seven new worlds hang in the Xiao System, each a land of its own kind with its own sky, fog, water, pull and air: Sunscar, dunes of sand under a hot white sky, with oases of Low-grade Spiritual Water, cacti, dry bushes and the odd old well; Pearlsea, a warm clear sea over a prismarine floor, grassy isles with trees, and coral reefs, kelp and seagrass beneath; Starglass, airless hills of calcite crowned in amethyst with geodes deep in the stone and a light pull; Wildheart, a jungle of tall trees, bamboo and melons on packed mud, with pools of Mid-grade Spiritual Water; Ashfall, airless black basalt under a heavy pull, with lava lakes rimmed in magma and basalt columns; Sporemoor, a forest of huge mushrooms on mycelium with pools of Low-grade Spiritual Water; and Petal Vale, rolling green hills of cherry groves and pink petals with lakes of Mid-grade Spiritual Water, home to the gentlest cultivators of any world. The cultivation mod's ores lie in every one of them.

Each has its globe in space wearing its own face, its line on the Star Chart, a page in the Records of the Myriad Realms in English, Spanish and Chinese, an advancement for setting foot there, its own wild cultivators and the raiders who come from it carrying its stone.

🌏 The worlds seen from space

Leave a world's sky and the planet now hangs under you as a great round globe wearing its own ground: the Jade Giant's green islands on their jade shelf, Ember's lava lakes and burning forests, Frostvein's glaciers, the Nine Peaks' grey heights and green valleys, the Immortal Realm's golden seas. Every face is drawn from the very blocks the world is made of, in the colours its own grass and water take there, so what you see from space is what you land on.

Each globe is lit by the Xiao System's sun, bright on the side facing it and dim on the far side, and turns slowly about its own pole, once a day. Just over a world it fills the whole screen below you; far off it never shrinks to less than a speck you can find, so every world in the system can be picked out from anywhere in it. With Cosmic Horizons installed, its own sky draws the same pictures of our worlds; there they hang still rather than turning.

🖼️ The Star Chart in the cultivation look

The Star Chart now opens on the cultivation mod's own painted panel, with its title face, ink lettering and jade-framed buttons for the tabs; the map of worlds itself stays on its dark field of stars. Every line, tab and world sits exactly where it always did. Should the cultivation mod ever change its look in a way this one cannot follow, the chart simply opens in its old look.

🗡️ Fly where you look

On a flying sword or treasure, a steeped weapon, axe, pickaxe, shovel or hoe, or a spiritual vessel, flight now goes where your crosshair points, the way an Elytra does but under your own power: hold forward and look up to climb, down to dive, and turn your head to turn. Sprint for the full speed of what you ride and walk for half; the side keys slide you level, and jump and crouch still lift and lower you. Let go and the air slows you to a stop as before.

Taking off, landing, stepping off and everything else about Sword Flight are as they were, and you never go faster than the server allows for what you ride. Inferior and Low gear, which hovers just over the ground, still flies level and follows the land. A switch under Flight on the Water page brings back the old level flight.

📜 Every flying thing says how it flies

Every sword - the game's, the cultivation mod's or any other mod's - every flying treasure, every steeped weapon, axe, pickaxe, shovel and hoe, and every spiritual vessel now says on its tooltip how fast it carries you, in blocks a second at a sprint, and how: under Sword Flight, or on its own.

The first time you hold each kind of thing that can carry you, a line over your hotbar says how to take off on it: cast Sword Flight with it in your hand or a treasure slot, or, for a vessel, right-click looking up at the open sky. Each kind is told once and remembered through death, never while you are already flying, and a switch under Flight on the Water page turns these lines off.

☯️ Ten layers in every immortal realm

From Earth Immortal up, the climb now runs through the cultivation mod's own immortal realms: Earth Immortal, Heavenly Immortal, True Immortal, Mystic, Golden, Taiyi Golden and Daluo Golden Immortal, and then two roads - Quasi-Saint, Saint and Dao Ancestor on the Heavenly Dao, or Hunyuan Golden, Hunyuan Daluo and Hunyuan Wuji Daluo Golden Immortal and Great Dao Saint on the Great Dao. Every one of them has ten layers. Fill a layer's bar and break through to climb it; at the tenth a tribulation stands between you and the next realm, and surviving it carries you into that realm as the cultivation mod itself would. At Daluo Golden Immortal's tenth layer the roads part: break through standing for the Heavenly Dao, or crouch as you break through for the Great Dao. Dao Ancestor's seat is one for the whole world - while someone else holds it, its storm will not come for you. A loose immortal keeps the cultivation mod's own levels.

The tribulation grows with the climb - ten waves at the first realm's top and ten more at every realm above, each bolt harder than the realm below - and its bolts are true tribulation lightning: standing in spiritual water softens them as it softens every tribulation, a wicked heart draws harder strikes, a sect's protection dome takes its share, and no technique turns them aside. Die under the storm or leave the world while it rages and you fall back to the ninth layer, and the heavens stay closed for the wait your settings give once your bar is full again.

The HUD, the cultivation screen and the name over a player's head show the cultivation mod's own realm name with the layer beside it, in every language this mod speaks. Wild cultivators in these realms climb the same ten layers at the same price, and a Xuan Gui that reaches Earth Immortal keeps climbing layers there as its qi grows. Operators can raise anyone straight into an immortal realm with the same command that raises through the realms below.

Worlds from before keep what they earned: a climber standing on one of the nine Heaven realms this mod used to add is moved once onto the matching realm of the cultivation mod, layer and bar with them, and never above what they reached.

🔧 Changed and rebalanced

🌐 Planets without an end

The worlds of the Xiao System are planets now, not islands: their land runs on past anything you can see, with continents, highlands, deep lowlands and seas thousands of blocks across, and no edge to walk off. Every world keeps its character - the Jade Giant's floating jade islands now stand on a jade shelf the whole world over, Ember's fire, Frostvein's ice, the Nine Peaks' peaks, the Spirit Moon's jade hills - and the Asteroid Belt and the Comet keep their drifting rock with a floor of the same stone far beneath. Every globe in space is sized to its land, a tenth of the land's broadest shapes across, so the larger worlds hang larger. The way down into a world and the way back up work as before.

🌍 Planets pull from a hundred blocks out, each by its own weight

A planet's pull used to reach out one and a half times its own size and draw every world's drifters alike. It now takes hold of anything living that is not flying once it comes within a hundred blocks of the planet's surface - a player who steps off their sword, a wild cultivator, a stray creature - and pulls it straight toward the planet's middle, faster and faster up to a top speed, until the planet's door takes it down to the ground. Each world pulls by its own weight: the Jade Giant nearly twice as hard as the Overworld, the Spirit Moon a fifth as hard, and a world that weighs nothing not at all.

Anyone flying keeps full control and is never pulled: on a sword or a treasure, on a vessel, on wings, or in the game's own flight. How far out the pull reaches is on the Space page of the Xiao Universe settings, and 0 turns it off.

🧭 Made for the cultivation mod 0.2.106

Realm Expansion now runs on the cultivation mod's 0.2.106, the version on Modrinth. The game no longer stops while loading, and a world played on the earlier version opens with everything of ours in it: your layers, your Peak, your climb above Earth Immortal (on the cultivation mod's own immortal realms now, as told above), the cultivators' homes and layers. In Qi Refining the cultivation mod now counts its own qi layers; ours follow them one for one, so the panel, the bar and the breakthrough all speak of the same layer, and a breakthrough spent on a layer uses up the pills and the luck it gathered, as the cultivation mod's own does.

A breakthrough the cultivation mod now turns away - while dead, spectating, held in stopped time, waiting on Meng Po's soup or with a breakthrough already under way - is turned away for Realm Expansion's layers too. A cultivator's maid, siege allies and the people of its own Qingqiu settlement are no longer treated as treasure-thieves by its sect, and Meng Po keeps her own wares. Cultivators and the Xuan Gui name their layer the way the cultivation mod now does, without saying it twice, and a cultivator's Details page shows its layer again.

The weapon aura now wakes on U. The cultivation mod's Sword of Divine Sense took Y (and its storage bag B), so the two no longer fire together. If you played an earlier version, press Reset beside the aura under Controls so it takes U.

🐛 Fixed

🪐 Out over the planet you leave

Rise past a world's sky into space and you now come out just over that world, a few dozen blocks above its sphere and looking down at it, instead of off to one side staring at the stars. Where you come out follows where you rose: from near the middle of the world you come out over the top of the planet, from far to the east on its east side, and from further and further out ever nearer its equator, never round the back. Everyone riding with you, and whatever you ride, comes out at the same spot facing the planet too.

This holds for every planet the space map knows, this mod's worlds and Cosmic Horizons' alike. Cosmic Horizons' own charts put the way out of most of its planets a hundred blocks or more off the planet's middle, and Pluto's past its edge, which is why you came out beside them; the way out is now worked out from the planet itself. How high over the planet you come out, and how quickly the spot moves round as you rise further from the middle, are on the Doors page of the Xiao Universe settings.

A pond's count no longer fills the log with errors

The line that hangs over a pond while it is fed - how many stones it has taken and how many it needs - was made without one of the fields the game always reads, so every stone thrown wrote "Display entity Not a string" to the log as an error. It shows as it always did, and the log stays quiet; a check now holds every floating label to the fields the game reads.

🚧 Being worked on

🌏 The Myriad Realms' second ring (work in progress)

The first ring stands whole now - the Verdant Plane at the heart, and the Infernal, Ender, Frost, Ember and Jade Planes around it. Still to rise on the map: the six planes of the second ring - the Peak, Lunar, Star, Dune, Abyssal and Thunder Planes - and the Immortal Plane beyond them, with the Immortal Sea among its lands, each with its riches, its creatures and its guardian. Until each one comes, the planes beside it hold its ground.

🌌 The Xiao Universe (work in progress)

The doors, space, the Sky Realm's islands, the Spirit Moon and the worlds past it stand on their own, Cosmic Horizons or none: without it, the Overworld's sky and the Sky Realm's top lead into the Xiao System, and the door home there leads back. Still to come: wild cultivators who turn back before their air runs out, breaches that drain a sealed room through its hole, an airlock frame, and the rest of the Xiao Universe tab.

🏘️ The Eastern library (work in progress)

Palaces, sects, towns, hamlets, houses and landmarks already stand across the planes. Still to be raised: temples, scripture pavilions and alchemy halls, the cave abodes of immortals, and the tombs of ancient immortals with their traps, guardians and treasuries.

💎 The Realm Stone's uses (work in progress)

The stone, its cores and the keystone are in. Still to come: carried, it quickens cultivation; set in a pond's reach it widens the blessed land; spent at a breakthrough it halves the bolts; it becomes the heart of the highest gear - and every cultivator who senses it turns on its bearer.

⚠️ Known problems

Nothing known. If anything misbehaves, a report with the game's log from that run helps.

🛡️ Headed off

Nothing to report this time.
