What's new
🧱 New: Data-Driven Blocks & Items
WorldWeaver can now register blocks and items from data files. With Data-Driven Blocks & Items, a wover-pack is an ordinary data/resource pack whose data/<namespace>/wover/block/*.json and data/<namespace>/wover/item/*.json files each define one block or item, described by WorldWeaver's new classification system: what it is (kind, material, finish) plus the flags, traits and inputs that deviate from that.
- Mods ship their wover-pack inside the jar; modpack makers and players can add their own as a folder or zip in the new
wover-packsfolder of the game directory. Everything is loaded once at startup, and the packs are enabled automatically as data and resource packs. - Definition files can use WorldWeaver conditions (e.g.
wover:mods_loaded), so a block or item can depend on another mod being present. - A world data pack that defines blocks cannot work (the registries are frozen before a world exists) and now asks to be moved to
wover-packs. - A client whose WorldWeaver blocks differ from the server's is told what differs.
- The old slot-based sets and the block type, material and behaviour trait builders are gone; see Changes below for what replaces them.
Features
- Datagen for packs: WoverArmorMaterialProvider writes wover/armor_material files, CreativeTabKey.everyItemOfNamespace writes a creative tab that shows every item of its namespace
- Plant loot templates wover:loot/silk_touch_or_shears_self (grass), wover:loot/drop_leaves_with (leaves with their own cut drop and extra item) and wover:loot/crop (a product range); two-block plants (wover:double_plant) drop only from their lower half, so breaking either half drops one
- Loot templates wover:loot/loot_table (drop what another loot table drops, optionally only for an item tag or list of tools) and wover:loot/drop_other (drop another item instead of the block)
- Wood types and stone sets for packs built with datagen: WoodTypeKey defines a pack's wood type in code and WoverDefinitionsProvider writes it to data/<ns>/wover/wood_type; BlockSet.named names a set of a base material (wover:stone) after its stone
- Blocks that hold a pack's own fluid: wover:underwater_plant and wover:ore/cluster take the input fluid, the new wover:underwater_kelp / wover:underwater_kelp_plant pair is vanilla's kelp in any fluid, and wover:replace_fluid can replace blocks holding the old fluid (contained)
- Armor materials from definition files
- Villager types can bring their own skins and texture variants
- Villager types and professions from definition files
- Data-driven portals: wover-portal-api
- A client whose WorldWeaver blocks differ from the server's is told what differs
- Definition files use WorldWeaver conditions
- A world data pack that defines blocks asks to be moved to the wover-packs folder
- Block and item definitions load from the wover-packs folder
- Block and item classifications have codecs
Changes
- The old slot-based sets and the block type, material and behaviour trait builders are gone
- block_properties.json no longer has a renderLayer column
- Add SurvivesOnTrait, #wover:plant_like and the flags TICKING, SPREADING, TILLABLE, COMPOSTABLE
- Finishes are values on the classification, not Kind variants
- Fold the Kinds and Materials override holders into Overrides
- Add the classified block core to wover-block-api
Fixes
- Block items that show their block's model keep the block's item tint (tinted leaves no longer show grey in the inventory)
- Single player worlds no longer hang on the loading screen
- A later FLAMMABLE trait on a block now replaces an earlier one instead of being ignored
