What's new

WDL 1.1.0

WDL 1.1.0 is a feature update focused on improving return travel, multiplayer safety, respawn behavior, and documentation.

New: Player Return History

  • Added persistent Return History for each player.
  • History is stored separately by player UUID.
  • Normal successful DIMENSION Gate travel records the previous Gate origin.
  • Default history limit is 3.
  • Configurable from 1 to 10.
[return_history]
max_entries = 3
return_gate_uses_history = true
return_scroll_uses_history = false

Return History survives logout/login and server restarts.

Death clears the current journey history.

New: Return Gate Path Retracing

RETURN Gates now use Return History by default.

Example:

Overworld → A → B → C

Using RETURN Gates:

C → B → A → Overworld

If the previous WDL dimension has been unloaded, WDL can Lazy Mount it before returning the player.

If no valid Return History exists, the RETURN Gate falls back to the Overworld.

New: Return History Loop Compression

Return History now represents the unresolved return path rather than a raw movement log.

Examples:

A → B → A

closes that route.

A → B → C → A

also closes the completed loop.

This prevents hub dimensions from repeatedly filling the history.

Example:

Overworld → A → B → A → C → A → D → A

leaves only the useful route back to the Overworld.

Return Scroll Improvements

The Return Scroll still returns directly to the Overworld by default:

return_scroll_uses_history = false

It can now optionally use Return History:

return_scroll_uses_history = true

When enabled, the Scroll returns one step along the player's previous Gate route.

XP cost is consumed only after a successful return.

New: Per-Dimension Bed Respawn

Each WDL dimension can now individually allow Bed Respawn.

[dimensions.bed]
allow_bed_respawn = true

Default or omitted:

allow_bed_respawn = false

When false:

  • Sleeping still works.
  • The WDL dimension is not used as the player's Bed Respawn destination.

When true:

  • Beds may be used as personal respawn points.
  • WDL may Lazy Mount an unloaded dimension when the player needs to respawn there.
  • Invalid, removed, blocked, disabled, or unavailable respawn destinations safely fall back toward the Overworld.

Dimensional Anchors remain Gate-arrival points and are not used as death-respawn locations.

Multiplayer Improvements

  • Return History is completely separated per player.
  • Multiple players can use the same Gate network without overwriting each other's route.
  • Added safer token-based runtime dimension pinning.
  • Multiple return or respawn operations can safely depend on the same unloaded WDL dimension.
  • One player's completed request does not prematurely release another player's pending dimension requirement.

Auto-Unload / Lazy Mount Integration

Return History and allowed Bed Respawn destinations can remount WDL dimensions that were previously Auto-Unloaded.

History entries are removed only after successful return travel.

Temporary mount failures do not immediately destroy valid Return History.

Permanently invalid history entries can be pruned safely.

Configuration Compatibility

Existing WDL 1.0.0 configurations remain compatible.

If the new settings are missing, WDL uses:

[return_history]
max_entries = 3
return_gate_uses_history = true
return_scroll_uses_history = false

Per-dimension Bed Respawn defaults to:

[dimensions.bed]
allow_bed_respawn = false

No manual config migration is required for existing 1.0.0 installations.

Existing Systems Preserved

WDL 1.1.0 keeps the existing behavior of:

  • LIST / ALL Gate selection
  • Random destination selection
  • Rarity and weight
  • Explicit weight overrides
  • Current-dimension exclusion
  • Same-frame multiple Gate definitions
  • Igniter-based Gate resolution
  • Gate activation costs
  • Gate structure lifecycle checks
  • Stale OPEN state repair
  • Dimensional Anchors
  • Auto-Unload
  • Source world-generation inheritance
  • Valkyrien Skies 2.4.11 unload/remount compatibility

Documentation Updated

The documentation included inside the WDL JAR has been extensively updated for 1.1.0.

Updated files:

WDL_README_EN.txt
WDL_README_JA.txt

The English and Japanese tutorials now include clearer beginner-oriented explanations for:

  • First-time installation
  • External world folder placement
  • First Dimension setup
  • First Gate setup
  • /wdl scan and config reload
  • common.toml
  • dimensions.toml
  • gates.toml
  • Optional weight
  • Rarity / weight behavior
  • Random Gate reroll behavior
  • allowed_igniters = []
  • Return History
  • Return Gate behavior
  • Return Scroll history mode
  • Loop compression
  • Multiplayer Return History
  • Per-dimension Bed Respawn
  • Auto-Unload / Lazy Mount interaction
  • Item recipes
  • Commands
  • Troubleshooting

The tutorials are designed so new users can begin with:

1 external world
+
1 DIMENSION Gate
+
1 Basic Dimension Igniter

and gradually learn the more advanced WDL features.

Recommended After Updating

After changing or adding configuration:

/wdl scan

Then verify registered worlds with:

/wdl list

As always, back up important external worlds before testing major configuration changes.
