WoodDye
No mod does wood more good!
Ever built half a house in oak and wished it were spruce? Ever watched a lightning strike take the whole thing with it?
WoodDye lets you stain any wood any shade — right there in the wall, no rebuilding — and make it immune to fire forever.
🎨 Dye wood where it stands
Hold a dye. Right-click a plank. Done.
Every wood in the game sits on a single light→dark chain, and each dye nudges a block one step along it:
Pale Oak → Cherry → Birch → Bamboo → Oak → Jungle → Acacia → Spruce → Mangrove → Dark Oak
- Black or brown dye — one step darker
- White or light gray dye, or bone meal — one step lighter
No breaking blocks. No re-placing. No hauling stacks back to a crafting table. Walk along a wall and recolour it as you go.
Everything wooden works — planks, slabs, stairs, logs, stripped logs, wood, stripped wood, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, pressure plates, buttons, signs and shelves. All ten woods, every form.
Blocks you'd normally use — doors, gates, buttons, signs, shelves — dye on sneak + right-click, so an ordinary click still just opens the door. Your builds keep working while you redecorate.
Prefer the crafting bench? Everything but logs has a shapeless recipe too — any wooden block + a dye of the colour you want. (Logs stay a right-click job: only the face you click can say whether you meant the bark or the rings.)
🔥 Fireproof your builds
Right-click a wooden block with Magma Cream and it becomes fireproof — permanently. It will not burn, will not catch, and will not spread. Build in a nether hub. Build next to your lava feature. Build under a campfire chandelier and sleep easy. (Signs and shelves are the exception — vanilla already made those fireproof, so they only need the dye.)
Fireproof wood is still fully dyeable — and dyeing it keeps it fireproof — still craftable, still strippable, and mines and builds exactly like the wood it copies. Fireproof logs make fireproof planks make fireproof stairs — the whole vanilla recipe tree, at vanilla ratios.
Got a stack to treat rather than a wall? Ring eight wooden blocks around one magma cream on the bench — same layout as stained glass — and all eight come out fireproof, without placing a thing.
Changed your mind? A Wet Sponge soaks the magma cream back out and gives you plain wood again — one at a time in world, or eight at a time on the bench. And the sponge isn't used up: it comes back out of the grid ready for the next batch, the way a water bucket leaves you the bucket. (Prefer it stricter? One config flip hands back a dry sponge you must re-soak.)
🪵 It knows how logs work
A log's bark and its end-grain rings run through different colour orders — so any single order can only ever look right on one of them.
WoodDye's default Intelligent mode reads the face you clicked: hit the side and it follows the bark order; hit the end and it follows the rings. Your log always shades the way it looks.
Or pin it to bark order or plank order in the config, if you'd rather.
✨ Details that matter
- 🚪 Doors recolour as a whole — both halves, in one click
- 📝 Signs keep their text
- 📚 Shelves only dye while empty, so nothing you're storing can be lost
- 🪓 An axe strips fireproof logs and wood, keeping the fireproofing and the orientation
- 💨 Every treatment gives a particle, a sound, and a configurable action-bar message
- 🎁 All 128 fireproof blocks in their own creative tab
⚙️ Made for servers
- Live config — edit and save, no restart. Or use
/wooddye reload. Every option has a plain-English name and tooltip in the in-game Mods → Config screen
- Permission node
wooddye.candye gates who may dye, for LuckPerms and friends
- Turn fireproofing off and it's off everywhere — in world and on the bench. Restoring wood always still works, so nobody is ever stuck with it
- Make treatments consume their dye or magma cream, if you want it rarer — a wet sponge just dries out and can be re-soaked, never destroyed
- Fireproof wood is never craftable from scratch — magma cream is the only way in
