Bringing Minecraft’s 26.4 Winter Drop content to Minecraft 1.20.1!
WinterDrop26.4 Backport is a lightweight, standalone content backport mod that brings features from Minecraft Java Edition 26.4 to Forge 1.20.1.
The goal of this project is simple: allow players to enjoy newer Minecraft content while continuing to play on 1.20.1, without needing to upgrade their game version or install a much larger content expansion.
This is an independent project separate from Modern Content Backport (MCB), my main backport mod. Unlike MCB, which covers content from multiple Minecraft updates, this project focuses specifically on the 26.4 Winter Drop and includes only a few minor adjustments where necessary.
Features
❄️ Ice Caves — A New Underground Experience
Discover the frozen underground environments introduced in Minecraft 26.4.
Ice Caves bring a different atmosphere to underground exploration, featuring icy terrain, natural formations, and new environmental hazards.
Players can explore these frozen caverns, discover new blocks, and encounter enemies adapted to the cold.
🧊 New Blocks and Environmental Features
Experience new winter-themed blocks and environmental elements, including:
- Icicles — Sharp ice formations that add natural hazards to frozen caves.
- Ice Crystals — Glowing crystal formations that illuminate underground environments.
- Frozen cave formations — Ice-covered terrain and decorative features that make underground exploration more varied.
These additions provide new building opportunities while making cold environments feel more distinct from ordinary caves.
🧟 Frostbite — A New Hostile Mob
Encounter the Frostbite, a frozen zombie variant adapted to icy environments.
Unlike ordinary zombies, Frostbites introduce additional combat challenges through their freezing attacks and ability to use Ice Balls.
This makes exploring cold regions more dangerous and gives players new enemies to prepare for.
🥶 Freezing Mechanics and Ice Balls
The Winter Drop introduces additional freezing-related combat mechanics.
- Freezing Effect — A status effect that gradually freezes affected entities and can cause damage.
- Ice Balls — Throwable projectiles that introduce new ranged combat interactions.
- Freezing Potions and Arrows — Additional ways to use freezing mechanics in combat.
This mod does not require MCB to be installed.
The two projects may contain overlapping content, so installing both together is not recommended unless compatibility has been specifically verified.
