Wilds Combat
Wilds Combat brings relative-speed melee damage, mount charges, saddle protection, portable cargo, and dyeable camel armor to Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
Formerly Mount Enhancement. Version 0.2.0 combines the existing mount features with player relative-velocity combat in one mod.
Player relative-speed combat
Direct player attacks gain damage and extra knockback based on the difference between the attacker's velocity and the target's velocity at the time of the hit. Mounted attacks use the outermost vehicle's movement. Vertical movement is included by default.
Default scaling is linear:
| Relative speed | Damage multiplier | Extra knockback strength |
|---|---|---|
| 0 blocks/second | 1x | 0 |
| 15 blocks/second | 2x | 0.75 |
| 30 blocks/second or faster | 3x | 1.5 |
Moving in the same direction at the same speed gives no speed bonus. Moving toward each other increases relative speed. The default bonus caps at 30 blocks/second. Armor, resistance, knockback resistance, and the normal damage-event chain still apply. Projectiles and other indirect player attacks are excluded by default.
Configure speed limits, damage multipliers, extra knockback, vertical movement, and vehicle movement in your world's serverconfig/wilds_combat-server.toml.
Mount features
- Charge attacks: ridden, equipped horses can hit and knock back a target once their measured horizontal movement reaches the configured threshold. The default is 8 blocks/second, with a 20-tick cooldown. Charge damage comes from compatible horseshoes or the configurable horse-armor fallback.
- Saddle protection: saddled mounts take less damage. By default, 6 damage is blocked, with a minimum of 1 damage from a positive hit.
- Portable cargo: carry compatible chests, barrels, and large vessels. Chest cargo provides 18 slots; sneak and use an empty hand to open it. Native donkey/mule and TerraFirmaCraft cargo behavior is preserved where applicable.
- Camel armor: dyeable armor with 12 armor points and a nearby-threat weakening effect. The rebuilt model follows native camel poses. Dye affects cloth while chainmail, straps, and metal retain their colors. Dye can be washed off in a water cauldron.
- Optional integrations: TerraFirmaCraft materials, compatible horseshoes, and cargo items are supported when available. Configurable equipment and loot fallbacks support installations without those optional items.
Mount settings continue to use config/mount_enhancement-common.toml for compatibility with existing installations. The charge threshold and player melee speed multiplier are separate mechanics.
Installation and upgrade
Requires Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.4.0 or newer in the 47.x series. Install the same Wilds Combat version on both the client and server. TerraFirmaCraft is optional.
When upgrading from Mount Enhancement, back up your world, remove the standalone mount_enhancement-*.jar and any older Wilds Combat JAR, then install wilds_combat-0.2.0.jar. Do not load both mods together. Existing camel armor IDs, dye data, mount cargo, and mount configuration keys are preserved. Legacy cargo exceeding 18 slots is retained as overflow.
If your modpack already implements relative-speed damage in a script, disable that duplicate handler when Wilds Combat is installed to prevent applying the bonus twice.
