Warning: Be careful near crops and decorative plants planted on surfaces other than farmland as the string trimmer’s cutting area is large and will cut these as well as weeds. Hey, nobody’s perfect.

Caution: Delicate equipment that requires specialized tools to maintain can be irrevocably damaged by careless use of the string trimmer.

Technical notes

By default, solar charging is enabled (but slow) to help you get started without need of a charging solution as long as the ambient light level is high enough. Solar charging is not intended to be the primary way to recharge the string trimmer. You will need another mod (like Direwolf20’s Charging Gadget) to provide a long term charging solution. Optionally, the string trimmer can be configured to not require RF or the solar charging rate can be increased so that it recharges quickly, reducing or eliminating the need for an external charging solution.

Any block that can be broken by flowing water will be cut by the trimmer. If a mod has a block that can be broken by flowing water but requires a tool to be used for the block to be dropped as an item is susceptible to loss.

Weed-B-Gone has many configurable parameters. See the configuration file (…/config/weedbgone-common.toml) for more information.

This mod provides two additional crafting components, a motor and a spool, to help pack builders control the resource costs of building a string trimmer. The default recipe requires a motor, a stick, and a spool but can be overridden in a resource pack. The default recipes for the two components are 4 iron ingots and 4 copper ingots for the motor and one iron ingot and 2 string for the spool. These resources are easily acquired early game so that the string trimmer is a viable option for early base building.

Please forgive my primitive models used in this mod. I am no artist and claim no responsibility for anyone getting nauseous just looking at them. I made this mod in response to a comment made by Direwolf20 in one of his let’s play videos about wanting an easy way to clear grass when building a base. I took inspiration from the Horn of the Wild from Botania and this mod can be used to include a similar functionally as a standalone feature.

I choose to develop this mod using NeoForge to see how different the modding experience is from classic Forge. I don’t have any plans on making a Fabric version of this mod as I don’t have the mental stamina to support two versions of the same mod.
