What's new
Web Swinger 1.0.0-beta.3
The webs need shooters now
The bite gives you the body. It does not give you webs any more.
- Firing anything - a swing line, a zip, a web shot - needs a pair of Web Shooters on you. Carrying them is enough: worn on the chest, hotbar, offhand or loose in the backpack. A suit takes all four armour slots, so no slot is asked for.
- Stash them and you keep every other power. A line already out never checks, so putting them away mid-swing will not drop you.
- Shooters without the bite work. You can fire, hang, swing, steer the arc and brake it - but gravity is the only thing putting speed into it. No pumping a swing on
W, no launch off a tensed line, no ground slingshot, a zip hauls you in at about half strength, and you land like anyone else. - Losing the powers now takes the wall with them properly. A revoked player could still crawl up one until the toggle was cycled.
If you played beta.2: the shooters are a separate item in the creative tab, and everything you fire now goes through them.
Swinging into things
- An ordinary swing can take a wall out. It used to need both zips live, so flying into a building at speed did nothing at all.
- The world decides what counts, not the client.
wall_impact_frompicks whether a plain swing breaks blocks or only a zip does (zip by default, so nothing changes until you move it). The speed tiers moved with it -wall_glass_atandwall_break_atare sliders over named stops from "any swing" up to "a full dive", set to exactly where the old fixed thresholds sat. wall_cracksis its own switch, so a world can have the hole without the scarring, or the scarring alone. The dust, the sound and the body arriving are the impact itself and always play.- A wall impact throws the mace's smash burst, turned onto the wall. Same two layers of dust a ground slam gets, in the colour of whatever you hit, sized off the crack you actually left instead of vanilla's fixed ring.
Slams
- The ground answers to the same scale the wall does. Where the shockwave starts is
slam_at, on the same named speed stops, rated on the server rather than decided in client code no world could change. slam_fromis the gesture: none, the aimed two-handed zip dive, or any fall that arrives fast enough.- A dive from real height finally does something. Three overlapping height tests meant a zip at a rooftop across the street never armed, and the drop that followed was never measured. A drop is worth the speed it builds now.
- A fall slam asks for the same crouch a dive does. Walking off a ledge used to nuke whatever was standing at the bottom whether you meant it or not.
Suits and webbing
- A suit says what colour its webs are. Colour and shape ride with every web, so any suit can spin any colour rather than there being one symbiote exception.
- Symbiote webbing is goo, not silk. One round tube instead of a braid of fibres: it swells and necks along its length, never the same twice, crawls slowly, has a couple of thin tendrils creeping over it, and thickens into its splat rather than butting against it. Its splat is a blob with drips, not a lattice rosette, and it is never quite still.
- New Anti-Venom suit, white webbing over the symbiote's shape. The symbiote suit itself is darker.
- Web shooters are their own item rather than a chest piece with a borrowed name, and have a hand-drawn icon now.
Sound
- Other players can hear your webs. Every web move that runs on your own client - the shot leaving the wrist, a zip haul, a climb jump, a web jump, a slingshot release - was silent to everyone watching. It is played for the room now.
- The symbiote's webs go off wet. Five takes, picked at random, for anything fired while wearing a symbiote-webbed suit.
- A new rope creak, cut from a sample that can be credited. Same level as the one it replaces, so the draw and swing volumes are unchanged.
- The metamorphosis ends on the pulse stopping - the heartbeat landing an octave under where the fever left it, with the hiss over it - rather than on a gasp.
- Every third-party sound in the mod is named with its source in LICENSE and credited in the README.
Mod id
- The mod id is
web_swinger, with an underscore, matching what a Fabric id is supposed to look like.
If you played beta.2: your config files and your keybinds are reset by this. The settings live in a new file (web_swinger-client.json, web_swinger-server.json) and the keys go back to their defaults.
