Description
VulkanMod Forge Port is a Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 performance mod that replaces Minecraft’s default OpenGL renderer with an optimized renderer powered by the Vulkan API.
The main goal of this mod is to improve in-game performance, reduce rendering overhead, and provide a smoother gameplay experience on supported systems. By using Vulkan instead of OpenGL, the mod can make better use of modern GPUs and improve performance in many situations, especially for players who are limited by rendering performance.
This Forge port brings Vulkan-based rendering to Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, making it useful for players, modpack creators, and server communities that want better client-side performance while staying on the Forge mod loader.
Features
- Replaces Minecraft’s OpenGL renderer with a Vulkan-based renderer
- Optimized rendering pipeline for better performance
- Can improve FPS and frame stability on supported hardware
- Useful for modpacks, performance-focused setups, and heavily modded clients
- Client-side performance mod
- Built for systems with Vulkan-compatible GPUs
Requirements
To use this mod, you need:
- A GPU/device that supports the Vulkan API (Vulkan Version 1.4)
- Up-to-date graphics drivers
If your GPU or drivers do not support Vulkan, the mod may not launch or may crash during startup.
How It Works
VulkanMod Forge Port changes how Minecraft renders the game by replacing the standard OpenGL rendering backend with a renderer that uses Vulkan.
Minecraft normally relies on OpenGL for rendering. This mod redirects the rendering process through Vulkan instead, allowing Minecraft to take advantage of a more modern graphics API. Vulkan can reduce CPU overhead, improve rendering efficiency, and provide better performance depending on your hardware and mod setup.
The result can be smoother gameplay, improved FPS, and better performance in certain situations compared to the default OpenGL renderer.
About the Mod
This project is a Forge 1.20.1 port of VulkanMod, made to bring Vulkan-based rendering support to Forge users.
The focus of this port is performance, compatibility, and keeping the core VulkanMod experience available for Forge modpacks and players. It is intended for users who want to improve Minecraft’s rendering performance without switching away from Forge.
Please keep in mind that Vulkan rendering can behave differently from Minecraft’s normal OpenGL renderer, so some visual issues or mod compatibility problems may occur depending on your setup.
Known Compatibility Issues
Some mods may rely directly on OpenGL rendering behavior and may not work correctly with Vulkan rendering.
Mods that add custom rendering, shaders, minimaps, world maps, overlays, or special visual effects may require additional compatibility work.
Known examples of mods that may need compatibility fixes:
- Xaero’s Minimap
- Xaero’s World Map
- Chunk Activity Tracker
- Mods with direct OpenGL calls
