What's new

Vanilla Progression 0.9.2 - Minecraft 26.2

The quality-of-life round, from the fifth playtest. Two enchantments your town earns at Town Hall I, a key that digs for you, a pinned-building panel that finally fits on the screen, a Town Hall that costs half as much to found, and mobs that hit a lot harder - everywhere, not just next to town.

  • Minecraft 26.2 - Fabric Loader 0.19.5 - Fabric API 0.161.0+26.2 - Java 25
  • Drop-in replacement for 0.9.0 / 0.9.1 on the server and every client. Saves carry over, and buildings you are already paying for get the new, lower bills at their next scan - nothing to redo.

Two earned enchantments: Excavation and Vein Mining

Both are enchanted-book recipes the town earns at Town Hall I. Neither is offered by an enchanting table or a librarian; the book is the only way in.

  • Excavation (I): breaks the eight blocks around the one you hit, in the plane of the face you hit it on. Book + 4 iron ingots + 4 cobblestone.
  • Vein Mining (I-III): break one ore and the connected vein of the same block comes with it - 8 blocks at I, 16 at II, 32 at III, never further than 8 blocks away. Book + 4 iron ingots + 4 coal. An anvil combines two books into the next level, as for any enchantment.
  • Sneak to mine one block. That is the only control, and it works for both.
  • One durability point per extra block, on top of the block you hit. Unbreaking and the Blacksmith's temper perk apply. The area stops before it could break the tool.
  • Leaves alone anything harder than the block you hit, anything your tool gets no drops from, chests, furnaces and other containers, and blocks inside another town's border. Fortune, Silk Touch, the Mine's and Quarry's perks all apply to every extra block.
  • The two do not go on the same tool.

A book that carries only these enchantments is not locked by Deep Enchanting (the Settlement V unlock that closes the librarian-Mending loophole). A book carrying one of them together with a vanilla enchantment still is.

The Guide has a new Area Mining page under K.

Auto-mine

Press V (rebindable under Controls) and you keep digging without holding the mouse button; steer with the mouse, press again to stop. It digs blocks only and never swings at a mob. It pauses while a screen is open and switches itself off when you die. "Auto-mine" at the top of the screen means it is on.

The pinned-building panel fits now

Pin a building with the star in the Buildings tab and its outstanding materials sit on your screen while you gather. Until now twelve materials with five-digit numbers did not fit, in either direction.

  • Compact: the building, a "3 / 12 done" counter, the first four outstanding materials with a progress bar each, and "+8 more".
  • Full: everything, in two columns when it gets tall, scaled down only as a last resort, and never off the edge of the screen.
  • Numbers are abbreviated ("2.4k / 6k") and every row has a bar, which reads at any width.
  • J switches between the two (P is vanilla's social-interactions key in 26.2). The panel prints the hint itself in small type - "[J] show all" or "[J] compact" - using whatever key you bound. The Buildings tab has a matching "Panel: compact / full" button next to the search box.

Town Hall I costs half

Every delivered material of the Town Hall's first tier is halved: cobblestone 6,000 -> 3,000, planks 3,584 -> 1,792, stone bricks 3,072 -> 1,536, and so on down the list. 20,336 items become 10,168. Founding should feel earned, not ground out. The kinds asked for are unchanged.

If your town has already delivered part of the old bill, the lower one applies at the next scan and a ledger that already covers it is marked paid on the spot.

Mobs hit harder, everywhere

The author's verdict on 0.9.1's numbers: too small, damage especially. The whole ladder moved up, damage more than health, and the settlement rung now applies to the whole world, in every dimension, from the strongest town on the server - not only inside the border or within 96 blocks of it. Companions, gear and variants still appear only near a town, so a night under the walls still looks different from a night in the wilds.

Overworld, in town, a zombie (20 hp / 3 dmg), before -> after:

Settlement Health Damage
wilderness 24 -> 24 3.6 -> 3.9
I 26 -> 27 3.8 -> 4.7
II 29 -> 31 3.9 -> 5.2
III 31 -> 34 5.4 -> 7.8
IV 37 -> 42 5.8 -> 8.8
V 42 -> 48 7.8 -> 12.5
VI 52 -> 60 8.5 -> 14.2
VII 64 -> 76 11.4 -> 19.2

Melee only: arrows, blaze fire and creeper blasts are vanilla. Vanilla's own Hard multiplier applies on top.

The Nether and the End bite now. Nether mobs carry +40 % health and damage (was +15 %), End mobs +60 % (was +25 %), added to whatever the town rung gives. You are told on entering: one chat line names the dimension, the bonus and the settlement rung behind it. The Threat tab lists each dimension with its percentages and the resulting totals for your town, and the HUD shows the bonus while you are there.

All of it is data/vprog/vprog_difficulty/table.json; the new stats_scope key is world and can be set back to near for the old behaviour.

Under the hood

  • 305 gametests pass (306 with vanilla's always-pass), twelve of them new: area mining, the book-unlock exemption, the live re-cost of a lowered bill, world-scoped stats.
  • The dedicated server boots with zero references to the client package.
  • Unverified: everything drawn on a screen - the panel's two modes, the half-size hint, the auto-mine label, the dimension line on the HUD, the new Threat-tab lines. The headless suite cannot reach any of it; report what looks wrong.

If you ran a server without the mod for a while

Saved data survives (settlement, levels, paid tiers, members), but Minecraft turns every unknown block in a loaded chunk into air and saves it that way. Re-place a missing marker on exactly its old position and the building picks up where it left off; put any other block there and the record is dropped. Items staged in a marker's delivery chest are lost with the block. Chunks nobody loaded are untouched.
