Instead of installing dozens of separate mods, install one. Vivacity brings player and mob animation, combat effects, weather, ambient detail and its own shaders together, and because every part shares the same wind, the same combo counter and the same light, they look far more coherent together.
Animation
- Player: a living gait (bob, hip shift, knee lift), sprint lean, hard-landing crouch, flailing long falls, hand-over-hand climbing, hand-to-mouth eating, hurt flinch, idle breathing.
- Combo swings: three distinct cuts for swords and axes (diagonal, horizontal, overhead). They last exactly the vanilla attack cooldown, so nobody is ever kept waiting. Spam clicks turn into short, smooth cuts.
- First person: hands lag behind the camera, sprint rhythm, landing dip, re-timed heavy swings.
- Shield, bow, swimming, elytra: guard stance, bow-draw strain, treading water and lava, stroke roll, banking into elytra turns.
- Capes: 16 segments that bend with speed and ripple in the wind.
- Mobs: shambling zombies, rattling skeletons, floppy piglin ears, villagers looking around, grazing cows, pecking chickens, curious wolves and more. Every mob breathes and recoils when hit.
- Camera: rolls into strafes, dips on landings, shakes from explosions, sonic booms and thunder.
Effects & world
- Slash arcs coloured by the blade's material (violet glow when enchanted, bigger on crits) and sparks
- Potion rings, explosion shockwaves and smoke
- Wind-driven particle rain, snow and desert sandstorms; falling leaves, fireflies, waterfall mist, cold breath
- Water and lava splashes, dripping after a swim, boat wakes, bubbles from containers opened underwater
- Footprints in snow, sand and mud; flickering held torches
- Hanging signs and lanterns swinging together with their chains, in the wind and when bumped
- Dynamic light from held, dropped and burning light sources
- Sliding hotbar, picked-up items flying into their slot, blocks settling in place, crumbling hearts, smooth menu openings
Its own shaders (no other mod needed)
The Shaders... button in the Options screen: ambient occlusion (SSAO), sun shading, warm torchlight, water reflections and waves, waving plants, bloom, sun rays, distance haze and colour grading. 12 looks: Soft, Cinematic, Vivid + Golden Hour, Nordic Frost, Noir, Dreamy, Lush, Retro Film, Moonlight, Clean. Make and share your own with a vivacity_pack.json.
Performance
- About 0.12 ms per frame with every module on; the shaders add about 0.08 ms.
- Entity culling: mobs hidden behind walls are not drawn (+40% FPS in testing).
- Idle FPS: 15 FPS while the window is in the background, 1 FPS when minimised.
Settings
Mods → Vivacity → Config or /vivacity settings: every one of the 29 modules can be switched on or off. Shaders: /vivacity shader <look>.
Compatibility
Client side only, nothing to install on the server, works on vanilla servers, and does not crash if put on a server anyway. With Embeddium the waving-plant and water-wave shaders do not run (everything else does). If another mod changes the hotbar, turn off Sliding Hotbar.
