Villager Guard Gunners 1.7
Version 1.7 improves guard combat decisions, village compatibility, and movement through larger settlements. Optional building packs add furnished regional Barracks, Village Armories, Sentry Posts, Watchtowers, and Training Yards.
Highlights
- More cautious combat. Guards with empty or unusable guns seek safer reachable positions. Reloading guards make space, and injured or overwhelmed guards can withdraw. A usable sidearm stays active across target changes when the primary has run out of ammo.
- Regional defense buildings. Choose two layouts per region for all five building families. Separate optional packs cover vanilla villages, six CTOV themes, Tidal Towns, Moog's Missing Villages, and Sky Villages. Sky buildings include railed floating islands. Download one all-buildings pack per village provider, or choose individual building families.
- Better village integration. Improved settlement recognition, residential estimates, and elevation checks help guards serve larger and raised villages. Recognized hostile Witch settlements exclude friendly defense buildings.
- Improved movement. Guards can return between floors in nearby buildings and remain at valid defense posts at village road ends. Patrols and casualty carriers recheck route support, headroom, and reachable approaches.
- More control over generation. Vanilla regional packs favor redesigned layouts, reduce matching small buildings' frequency, and screen some flooded or deeply buried sites. Pack authors can tune selection chance and terrain screening, with room for up to 192 definitions and 24 target pools.
Fixes
- Fixed packaged-installation startup crashes involving Recovery Cot name tags and guard checkpoint movement.
- Fixed managed village generation suppressing ordinary guards at the default Guard Villagers spawn marker, and improved discovery of large villages.
- Guards stop advancing when combat requires holding or retreating, preserve Defend limits, and stop pursuing after enemy evidence expires.
- Medics try alternate Recovery Cot approaches and retain their destination through route changes. Quartermaster service stops when the job-site claim is released.
- Fixed patrol interruptions caused by unchanged terrain surveys. Village Armory blocks now rotate and mirror with building templates.
- Added a targeted loading correction for Integrated Villages 1.3.2.
Updating from 1.6
Back up important worlds and replace the mod on both client and server. Keep existing config files to preserve your choices. Restart Minecraft after updating. The required dependency versions are unchanged.
Install optional building ZIPs in the world's datapacks folder and enable
Village Defense Building generation in Fzzy Config. Choose provider-specific
packs only with their matching village mods installed. Restart before exploring
new villages; /reload alone does not apply building pool changes. Replace old
copies of the same packs rather than keeping both versions enabled.
The base mod retains its small built-in buildings when no regional packs are installed. Existing villages, guards, and saved staffing allowances remain; updating does not rebuild villages, add replacement guards, or repair old placements. See building pack installation for filenames and setup.
Known limitations
Large buildings need space and can be rare in crowded villages. Occasional flooding, buried entrances, or awkward routes remain possible. Terrain screening currently applies to the vanilla regional packs. CTOV packs cover six themes; Integrated Villages and Villages&Pillages have recognition support without dedicated redesigned building packs for their custom settlements. Further seed, biome, and multiplayer playthrough checks remain pending for this candidate.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1 and Java 17.
- Forge 47.4.10 or newer 47.x.
- Guard Villagers 1.20.1-1.6.19.
- Timeless and Classics Zero (TaCZ) 1.1.8-hotfix.
- Fzzy Config 0.7.6 for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Kotlin for Forge 4.12.0.
Install the mod and all four required dependencies on both client and server. The baseline gun pack is the TaCZ Default Gun Pack bundled with TaCZ 1.1.8-hotfix. Additional gun packs need their own compatibility checks.
