Village Alive

Expands villager behavior and village life.

about

Villagers don't just work and trade. they can fish, make and share useful items, use village storage, pick up resources, spend their free time in different ways, and react when they witness you stealing from the village. Empty village chests can also gradually fill up again as villagers continue their daily lives.

This mod is designed to make village life feel more active and vanilla friendly.

What does it add?

  •  meaningful villager professions — villagers can actually craft, cook and produce items related to their jobs.
  •  A small village economy — materials can be stored, used, produced and shared between villagers.
  •  Living village storage — emptied village chests can gradually fill up again as villagers continue working.
  • Fishing — fishermen can walk to water, cast a fishing rod and bring their catch back to the village.
  • Sheep shearing — shepherds can find sheep, shear them and collect the wool.
  • Dropped item pickup — useful items left around the village can be collected by villagers.
  • Free-time activities — villagers can acquire small resources during their leisure time, influenced by the surrounding biome.
  • Individual differences — villagers have subtle differences in how they keep and use resources without adding visible RPG stats.
  • Theft reactions — villagers can notice when the player steals from village-owned storage and remember what happened.
  • More active unemployed villagers and nitwits — some can wander between homes, witness theft and run to report what they saw.
  • Slightly expanded vanilla villages with a better variety of profession buildings.
  • Small support features such as bedside storage and required work blocks can appear when a village needs them.

Stealing From Villages

Village storage belongs to the village, but player-placed storage does not. Even if villagers deposit items into it, taking those items out does not count as theft.

Simply opening a village chest isn't theft.
When you close the container after removing something, nearby villagers can notice what happened.

A villager can witness the theft if they are awake and have a clear view of you — even through windows.

What happens if I'm caught?

The villager who witnesses the theft remembers what you did and gains a negative opinion of you using Minecraft's existing gossip system.
