What's new
Viking Legacy 0.1.3 — Arms of the North
Minecraft 26.1.2 · NeoForge 26.1.2.80 · Requires TerraBlender
A combat-focused update. Every weapon in the mod has been rebuilt with its own identity and its own art, the Round Shield finally works like a real shield, and nine new advancements guide you through the systems that had no in-game explanation before.
New
- Battle Axe — a very slow, very heavy two-hander. It cannot attack, mine, or charge while your offhand is occupied. Hold right click for one second to raise it overhead with both hands, then release for a downward slam that deals double damage and starts a three-second cooldown.
- Longbow — trades draw speed for power. It takes 1.5 seconds to reach full draw instead of the vanilla bow's 1.0, and pays that back with arrows that fly 20% faster, carry farther, and group tighter, out of a bow with 576 durability. Takes all the usual bow enchantments. Crafted with string, sticks, and a Tough Handle.
- Wool Hat — a soft Norse cap that completes the wool set.
- Nine new advancements, listed below.
Weapons reworked
- Seax — now a fast short blade. Hold a second Seax in your offhand and every landed main-hand hit is followed by a separate offhand slash, with its own swing, its own durability cost, and its own enchantment damage.
- Bearded Axe — medium swing speed, medium-high damage. Carrying anything in your offhand slows your swing while the axe is in your main hand.
- Viking Spear — now throwable, trident-style, with extended melee reach and a stab animation. Holding a shield in your offhand raises the shield on right click instead of throwing the spear, so you can fight spear-and-board without losing your weapon.
- Round Shield — is now a genuine shield. It raises to block, reduces frontal damage, takes durability from hard hits, and can be disabled by an axe — but it recovers from being disabled twice as fast as a vanilla shield. Crafted from four planks around an iron ingot.
New advancements
Nine additions, built around using the mod rather than just crafting from it.
- Into the Wetwood — set foot in a Northern Wetwood.
- Fields of the North — harvest barley, rye, turnips, and cabbages at full growth.
- Northern Table (challenge) — eat every northern food, all eleven of them.
- Two Blades — cut down a foe with the offhand strike of a paired Seax.
- Shieldwall — turn aside a blow with a raised Round Shield.
- Overhead Strike — fell a foe with the Battle Axe's charged overhead blow.
- Master at Arms (challenge) — take a life with every northern weapon: Seax, Bearded Axe, Battle Axe, Spear, and Longbow.
- Mark of the North — cut a design into stone or timber with a Carving Chisel.
- Sixteen Sigils (challenge) — gather all sixteen carved stones. Their sources span the Overworld, the Nether, and the End.
Art
- The Seax, Bearded Axe, Battle Axe, Viking Spear, and Round Shield were all redrawn from scratch as hand-authored pixel art, with historically grounded silhouettes that stay readable at inventory size.
- The Battle Axe and Viking Spear use dedicated larger in-hand art rather than a scaled-up icon, so held weapons gain real detail instead of magnified pixels.
- The Round Shield is a true 3D model in every context — an octagonal plank disc with a protruding iron boss and a rear grip — repainted as dark red-brown planking behind an iron rim.
- The Battle Axe's special attack has a genuine two-handed overhead animation that lifts as the charge builds, with no third-party animation library.
- The wool set was rebuilt around the blue-clad Viking look: a rib-knit blue cap, a dark-blue tunic with a heavy collar and leather sleeves, brown trousers, and leather boots with pale wool cuffs.
