Vertical Spawn!
Random respawns anywhere inside a 3D area - not just on the highest block.
Vanilla random spawning only looks at the surface: players without a spawn point, and everyone hit by /spreadplayers, always land on the highest block. Vertical Spawn adds the missing dimension. Set an area with a min and max Y, and players land at a random safe spot anywhere inside it - caves, overhangs, interiors, lower levels, or the surface too.
Built for Forge 1.20.1
Features
- True 3D random spawn - picks from every safe spot between min and max Y, not just the top block
- Multiple zones - define several named areas, each with its own Y range and ceiling rule, all with an equal chance
- Safe spots only - solid floor, room to stand, no slabs, liquids, fire, cobwebs or magma
/spreadplayersreplacement - same arguments, but uses the whole height range (and your zones)- Datapack friendly - all commands work in functions and command blocks
- Lightweight - server-side only, no client mod required
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge 47.4.10+
Installation
Drop the jar in your server's mods folder and launch.
Server-side mod - players don't need to install anything. Works in single-player too.
Usage
Set the area and turn it on:
/verticalspawn area border 0 120
/verticalspawn enable
That's it. Players now respawn anywhere inside the world border, from Y 0 up to Y 120.
Want spawns only inside certain structures? Add zones instead - each one gets an equal share:
/verticalspawn zone add tower_a -30 -10 -10 10 65 200 true
/verticalspawn zone add tower_b 10 -10 30 10 65 200 true
The true at the end means covered spots only, so nobody spawns on the roof.
Or swap out /spreadplayers:
/verticalspawn spread 0 0 10 80 true @a
