Vein: Mutations

Vanilla survival infects you. Four veins — Pupil, Bone, Shadow, and Flesh — grow out of darkness, fists, stealth, and hunger. Embrace the mutation.

Vein 0.3.0 — The World Writes You

Added

• The world writes vein progress on its own. Dark time underground feeds Pupil. A streak of blocks broken with the wrong tool feeds Bone. Sculk under your feet feeds Pupil and Flesh, unless you are standing on wool. In a dark cave, a hostile that walks past without noticing you feeds Shadow. Standing still while hungry, next to raw food on the ground, feeds Flesh. A full bar ranks the vein up by itself.
• A daily limit on that writing. The vein page shows today's total out of 60. It resets with the game day.
• One pool point at midnight if you are awake and any vein is already rank II. Once a night. Sleeping skips it.
• After a long stretch underground, daylight pushes a Pupil of rank III or higher back a step.
• Cave dependence. Stay down long enough at Pupil III and open sky applies Mining Fatigue until you stay in the light. Arcade does not do this.
• Inscribed Coal. From Pupil II, coal ore or deepslate coal ore broken in real darkness, without Silk Touch, can drop Inscribed Coal instead of one piece of coal. It burns like coal. Holding it while you keep moving feeds Pupil and heats the eyes, a limited number of times a day.
• Live veins on the screen when the world writes, with a wet pulse. A break gives them a short twitch.
• A short ring on the HUD dots when the world writes progress.
• Villagers within ten blocks flinch and shut their trades when you eat raw meat at Flesh I or higher. The refusal line is one of seven. The game remembers the meat, so a later click still fails, and that villager's offers stay shut.
• At Flesh III, a bed can refuse you when at least two villagers are nearby.
• At Flesh IV, cows and sheep startle when you stand against them.
• At Shadow III, in full darkness, a zombie or skeleton that has seen you loses you for a short moment.
• Advancements: The World Writes, Midnight Drip, Taken in the Dark, Eyes That Stay Down, and No Pour.
• Language files for Ukrainian, Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Italian, and Turkish, on top of English and Russian. The text follows the language chosen in Options.

Removed

• Eating the Echo Ampoule. You drink it.
• Villager trades after you have eaten raw meat at Flesh I or higher. Later clicks still fail.
• The old single crack graphic on a Bone finisher.

Fixed

• The pool line and "The world wrote today" were drawn on top of each other, so the words turned into garbage. The pool is now on the top row, next to the mode. The world line has the row under the title.
• Villagers who refuse you now actually flinch.
• Screen veins were missing from the left and right edges and sat in the middle of an edge. They now come from any side, including the corners, and more than one can show at once.
• The Echo Ampoule played the eat animation. It now plays the drink animation.

Changed

• World writing in arcade is slower than in Normal.
• Nausea after the ampoule lasts 8 seconds.
• The Bone crack is one of five pictures, chosen when the crack starts. Timing and strength are the same.
