Description

Introduction

There are a lot of great hammer mods out there. Vanilla hammers, Ex compressum and many other mods have excellently designed and well thought out hammers. I'm not going to pretend that I, an mcreator using amateur mod developer on his first ever mod can do any better. But I can at least give it a shot. I've often found that, even though I can't code, I can make interesting design choices that, if I have the technical ability, could make a fun experience. Believe me, I have tried to get into coding, it just requires a mindset I do not have. I thought I would never be able to express these interesting game development concepts until I discovered mcreator. More on mcreator in a bit, though.

Back to the mod itself. The mod adds hammers tiered from wood to netherite. The hammers are used to break stone type blocks, like a pickaxe, but also have a high attack damage. To balance this and make things not too overpowered, the weapon has a low attack speed, like an axe. I hope you think this is an interesting concept (I need external feedback, as I am inherently biased lol).

Recipes

The recipes are exactly the same as that of a pickaxe, but planks are replaced with logs (of any variety) and cobblestone is replaced with stone. Iron, gold and diamond are all replaced with there block equivalent (in an attempt to make them balanced. You may be able to tell, I'm fond of balancing things in this mod). Netherite hammers are crafted in the smithing table using a diamond hammer and a netherite ingot. I debated whether to use an ingot or a block of netherite, but I chose an ingot because I didn't think it was worth costing a full block.

3x3 mining?

As mentioned in the summary, I tried to stick with minecraft's design philosophy as closely as possible. One of minecraft's most important rule is "One block at a time". This states that one block should be interacted with at one given time. Sure, one block can affect its surrounds, in the case of TNT, but all actions should only immediately affect one block. This is what I did with the hammers. Many hammer mods come with the ability to break a 3x3 area. This violates this core principle, so I decided against it. However, I know that the reason other mods contain this feature is because many people like this feature and don't care about minecraft's design principles being obeyed. To account for this, I have added a gamerule (doHammersBreak3x3) that, when set to true, will enable the 3x3 breaking mechanic. Feel free to play with this gamerule enabled for a more modded experience, or with the gamerule off for a more vanilla-style tool.

Fabric?

Sure! If there is a popular enough demand for it, I should be able to make a fabric version with mcreator plugins (that is, if they update, which they usually do fairly quickly).

Can you back port the mod?

Again, if there is a popular enough demand for it, I will be able to back port the mod to 1.12.2, 1.14.4 and 1.16.5

Can you update to 1.18 or higher?

Yeh, I'm going to have to disappoint. As long as mcreator still keeps working on the project and updating it to the next version, I will be able to update. Problem is, mcreator takes a long time to update. (Don't get me wrong, HUGE respect goes out the the people who develop mcreator! I can only imagine how difficult that would be, and I understand perfectly why these updates take time). This means I will probably be able to update to 1.18 when 1.19 comes out. Very sorry on that one. I'm sure you can use this mod with 1.19 recreation mods but, as a very basic and fairly content sparse mod, its perfectly fine to drop this mod in favour for playing modded 1.18/1.19.

Sorry, you lost me at mcreator. Isn't that for children and script kiddies?

Yeh, I get it. I understand why you would think this, but mcreator has come a long way from its infancy. It has also opened up the modding community for anyone of any coding ability, including no coding ability (like myself). Yes, I understand this does come with a byproduct of children designing terrible pixel art and mods that just make no sense, but if you sort of know what your doing, mcreator can be a viable option. No doubt, I will look back at this in 5 years time and utterly hate it, but that's fine. Most things you make in your teenage years are a bit rubbish, and often embarrassing, and I fully acknowledge that. All I ask really, is for you to judge my mod on its textures, design choices and features, not by what programme I used to make it.

Bugs

Sorry that bit was a bit depressing, I just anticipated a bit of hate for using mcreator. Anyway, if you do spot a bug in my mod, please make sure to comment it down below, and I will address it as soon as possible! I am using an mcreator snapshot that may contain a few bugs, but once the full release comes out, I will be updating it. Also, if you have any ideas for this mod, or you would have done something differently yourself, please leave a comment down below. Also, if the mod is a bit rubbish, please tell me it is a bit rubbish, and what I can do better to improve it. All constructive criticism is welcome!

Enjoy the mod and let me know what you think! :D
