Utility Golems

Utility Golems is a vanilla-friendly automation mod for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 that introduces functional, buildable golems designed to handle everyday tasks.
Instead of relying on complex machines or multiblock systems, this mod focuses on simple, immersive automation. Golems are constructed directly in the world using familiar materials and behave as natural extensions of Minecraft's mechanics.
Build your own helpers to manage farming, resource gathering, and more - no machines required!
Features
- Buildable utility golems (no natural spawning)
- Farming and woodcutting automation using entity-based behaviour
- Uses nearby containers for storage and resources
- No GUIs, cables, or power systems
- Designed to fit naturally into survival gameplay
Hay Golem
The Hay Golem maintains crop growth and keeps farmland productive.
### Behaviour * Plants crops on available farmland * Uses bonemeal to accelerate growth * Pulls seeds and bonemeal from nearby containers * Attacks skeletons and collects bones * Avoids cows and sheep * Immune to arrow damage ### Healing * Bonemeal ### How to Build * Place 2 **Hay Bale** blocks, stacked vertically * Place a **Carved Pumpkin** on top The golem will form immediately once the structure is complete.
Mud Golem
The Mud Golem handles harvesting and storage, completing the farming cycle.
### Behaviour * Harvests fully grown crops * Deposits items into nearby containers * Monitors crops and reacts to interference * Attacks entities that break crops * Otherwise neutral * Moves slowly but consistently ### Healing * Mud ### How to Build * Build an iron-golem-shaped body out of **Mud** blocks: one for the body, one below it for the legs, and one on each side for the arms (5 blocks total) * Place a **Carved Pumpkin** on top The golem will activate and begin working nearby farmland.
Timber Golem
The Timber Golem fells trees and keeps its wood supply moving into storage.
### Behaviour * Chops down trees of its own wood type, log by log from the bottom up * Deposits the logs it cuts into nearby containers * Replants a sapling at the base of every tree it fells * Panics and flees from fire, soul fire, and lava - wood burns easily * Sustained burning doesn't kill it - it chars into a **Charcoal Golem** instead ### Healing * Stick ### How to Build * Place 2 **Log** blocks of the same wood type, stacked vertically (any type except Crimson or Warped) * Place a **Carved Pumpkin** on top The golem will form immediately, matching the wood type used to build it.
Charcoal Golem
The reborn form of a Timber Golem that's caught fire, the Charcoal Golem trades logging for saplings.
### Behaviour * Collects sapling item drops on the ground and withdraws saplings from nearby containers * Replants saplings it's carrying, including 2x2 patches for the giant Dark Oak/Spruce/Jungle tree variants * Clears nearby flowers * Follows players who are holding a sapling * Wary of players holding flowers * Right-click it with a **Stick** to light it into a **Torch** ### Healing * Charcoal ### How to Build * Not built directly - set a **Timber Golem** on fire (Flint and Steel, or by standing it in fire or lava) and sustained burning will transform it into a Charcoal Golem.
